Cheers guys.

I started working back on this P.O.S. last night and this morning. After many light coats and rub backs I think I've got the white down ok, but I'm not 100% happy with it. In some places it's been patchy, others it's run, no matter how light a coat I go and in others it just won't lay down nice. Still, I'm pushing on.

I've started looking at the colours required for the wings. Who the hell made these choices? Two different shades of grey, which are made up by mixing 2 or more other shades of grey. Gahhhh. Does anyone have any recommendations for these colours in tamiya, mr hobby or life colour paints please.

Cheers.

No idea of the other colours but Tamiya fine white primer is definitely the go for the white. Goes on very easily and very smooth. The best shit I've ever used for painting large white areas. HTH
Head A/CAM Phantom Phanatic, Shit Stirrer and Karma Bus Driver toot fkn toot

Alright, apparently Airbus grey is BAC 707, which is FS16515. I have ordered a jar of lifecolor from BNA and should have it Tuesday.

Gaaaaahh Just seems to not be my day. I turned the heater on in the garage early and got rid of the chill. It was quite comfortable really. Then got to work applying the white primer to the airbus. Maybe I was applying it to close, but no matter how light a coat i gave it, the paint got runs in it which I then had to sand out and re paint. eventually I gave up and gave it a couple of coats of Lifecolour gloss white and it finally went down ok.

I then got back to assembling the engine nacelles which went together ok, but still fought me a little with the paint.

I left it all to dry for a few hours while I worked on another project and should have left it there, but as evening drew near, and the garage was still warm, I thought "hey, it shouldn't take too long to mask up and spray a coat of red onto the tail. Masking went well and after testing out the Humbrol acrylic red on some scrap as I hadn't used it before, it seemed to spray ok using Lifecolour thinner.

Test complete, I then moved onto the model where one side sprayed on well, though will need a few more coats.

But with the otherside, things started to go bad. It started coming out of the brush like I was throwing paint at it from across the room from an open artery. It will need sanding back and going again. GAAAAAHHHHHHH

I know what you mean Troy...I've had similar issues with a 737. Guess that's why it's been on the go since Expo 2013!

I too feel your pain Troy. Before I built my first airliner, I assumed they'd be fairly straightforward compared to the 1/32 scale stuff I normally build. In fact, I started building airliners with the idea of them being a bit of light relief from such builds. How wrong I was! They're much more difficult than they seem - all those long fuselage seams, poorly-fitting wings and engines, all that white paint that needs to be applied perfectly, all those long, straight demarcations! And apply all those cheat line decals can be a nightmare too. I think that's why I like Qantas liveries - you mostly don't have to worry about those.

Anyway, keep up the good fight mate. Got one of these in the stash myself, and occasionally pull it out and fondle it (the kit, I mean).
