Have to say it's really refreshing to see all these positive comments about our forthcoming air show. Must be a high percentage of aerosexuals on this site!
One of my most bizarre and treasured Avalon moments occurred two years ago. Just being able to walk right up and under the B-52 was mind boggling. I got chatting to a young B-52 navigator standing under the bomb bay of his "work place" and asked whether they have watched "Dr. Strangelove". He did advise that this amazing film is still a firm favourite with B-52 crews. This to me is what Avalon is all about - not just watching the spectacular aeroplanes, but also chatting to the crews. All these people are immensely proud of what they do (as they should be) and they are fountains of knowledge (within the constraints of any secret stuff they know of course!). So, my recommendation to those going is don't be bashful and chat to these aircrews standing around their aeroplanes - they love their aeroplanes more than we love seeing them. It can be amazing what you can find out about their amazing world!
I so want to catch up with any of the pilots flying the squadrons of WW1 aeroplanes coming from NZ. On a side note, is it just me or do others find it bizarre that NZ has so many WW1 fighters and yet no actual modern day equivalents? No offence bro's from over the "dutch"!
I am of course every envious that our brother Kiwi's can produce such magnificent flying machines and can't wait to see them in action!
I'm going on Friday and one of the public days - not sure which. Have a great Avalon everyone!
Cheers
Adam
