Thanks Ray but it aint finished yet! I'm sure this one is going to bite me at some stage, I'm betting on the decals.

Finally after three coats of Mr Surfacer 500 and three sandings we can now move on to painting this thing. I've had a hard time trying to figure out what colour to paint the wings/engine nacelles. I was tossing up between grey & white. As can be seen by the picture, the nacelles are not as white as the white fern markings. It doesn't look grey either. After chatting to the bloke at the local hobby shop, he suggested using Gunze "off white". Sounds like a perfect colour.

Once a few coats of off white had dried it was time for masking. Here she is all masked up.

In the kit, there is a very clever idea on how to put on the passenger window masks. They provide a piece of sticky tape. You use this tape by placing over the mask whilst it is still on the backing sheet. Pulling the tape pulls the mask off the sheet. You then carefully lign up where you want the mask to go, rub down and then peel the tape off, leaving the mask in place. Saves having to handle the mask where it could lose it's tack. It's also easier to line up.

Late last night I sprayed a few coats of black. Once dried I was about to remove all the masks in excitement to see how I went! Then I remembered I have to do the silver outline for the pilot windows. So I will do that tonight and then we can remove masks.

Funny how all (most) modellers strive for that perfect glossy finish that is completely free of any ripple in the skin.
It's patently obvious that the reverse is true...no better illustration that that last photo.
I guess the difficulty lies in having all the blemishes/irregularities line up to be along rivet lines/bulkhead bulges & dirty/worn sections.

Yeah...like that happens a lot on model kits  .

Mine has dimples and what not due to shoddy workmanship!

Ok, we masked the front windscreen area for some silver paint:

Leigh can you see anything familiar in the background?

I'm happy with the results. Just two little bits of overspray. I don't know how it happens, especially when you think you have masked the life out of it and double taped problem areas!

I'm going to leave it a few days for the paint to cure. Then a shot of future and then on the decals. Dum dum daaaaaaa.
