What is a civil aircraft?

Definitions do throw up some anomalies. The subject of our Amodel Beech 1900 conversion is a civil registered one

However for a month or so, VH-EMI became RAAF A53-001. No civil rego therefore not a civilian.

Then the sticky numbers were peeled off and it became civil again.

X-15 - Civil or military or both? X-15 was funded by USAF & USN and program run by NASA using both civil and military test pilots. Was it civil when being flown by civilian test pilots and military when being flown by military test pilots? It's a curly one and in my mind falls right into the "both" department. Same can be said for the NB-52A/Bs used to launch the "Bull". Because of funding and the "Stars & Bars" on the Bull, to me it is more a military program being run under the wings of a civilian organisation, but I think a good example of just how the lines blur.

Adam,i think of the X15s as military all the time yes flown by civilians on occasions but built to USAF/USN specs and always flown with a military serial...NEVER a civil regerstration.

but always with a military serial..........i mean if we allow that as a civil plane then a warbird painted mustang(that i have planned)will be covered as it has a German civil registration .......the majority aircraft of NASA operates are on the civil registration system......the main ones i can think of that werent were Xplanes the B52's and the SR71.

Not much point having a civvie category if that's how it's gonna be. Given that logic, civvie operated aggressors in military schemes could be entered as they are operated by civilian contractors which is NOT what the category was set up for. Not much point entering models if the table is gonna be diluted with other categories entries IMHO.

I don't think you will need to worry Paul because firstly, I don't make the rules.....Model Expo Committee does that, and secondly, it's not as if I finish any model for any category anyway. I am just the dumb f@#k who pays for it all .
