1:144th Malaysian B777-200 decals

Postby tor lives » Tue Dec 27, 2016 10:11 am

Hi guys,
I am trying to source decals to do a 1:144th Malaysian B777-200, (yes.....THAT jet)
Image
I have tried all the usual decals producers but nobody seems to have gone near the subject, (perhaps because of the sensitivities involved, plus the fact that it is still an "open case").
Does anyone know of the existence of these decals or do I have to have them custom-printed ???

Flightpath Decals (USA) product no. FP44-226 is what you're after... but long out of production and/or sold out wherever I looked.

Toptier Hobby (formerly RIB Hobby) have recently done it in 1/200: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOPTIERHOBBY-Decal-1-200-Boeing-777-200ER-Malaysia-Airlines-/111433322529?hash=item19f1f19021

That's the best I can come up with TOR, sorry! :|

Scott.

Thanks for checking anyway Scotty.
Looks like it will be a "custom job" then.

I have the Flightpath A330 version of that scheme, though I suppose they would not adapt well to a B777

OK, so a short-term change of plan.
Thanks to Scotty pointing me in the right direction, I have purchased two sets, (always nice to have a back-up in case of unforseen circumstances), of these 1:200 Malaysian Airlines B777-200 decals:

And I have pulled this old Hasegawa 1:200 777-200 out of long-term storage to wear them, (following an overdue refrub):

I still plan on doing a 1:144 version of this jet down the track but for now I will work with what I have.
This will be my number two "History Maker" for our GB.
Thanks for your guidance Scotty.

What marking are they on the sacrificial B777 Ray?

I got this 1:200 Hasegawa 777 as a part of a large group of models picked up from a deceased estate. If I didn't take them they were going to be thrown out  .....and I couldn't bear that thought. The original owner/builder had many of his airliner models finished in generic and non-descript attractive but simple colour schemes....this is one of them. He also had 1:144th DC-10, L1011, 777, A310, A330, A320 all in a similar scheme, (I think he may have fancied himself as some kind industrial designer/artist :D ). All these rather well-constructed models are now just sitting in my version of "Victorville" long-term storage, (i.e. the old blue RAAF trunk), waiting for a re-birth and a new lease of life.

PS: My supplier of "custom-made decals" has just let me know that he is happy to do the Malaysian 777 for me in 1:144 so I am now of two minds which one should take priority....the 1:200 or the 1:144 :?

Simple, Ray...1:200 for practice, 1:144 for the real deal..
Pretending to do it TAC style with the big boys since 1987

Dragging this one from the depths.

Have these decals arrived and if so can someone advise what the dark grey colour is inthe scheme?

I have an old Flightpath A330 sheet for the same scheme and it only mentions the lower fuselage and engine grey as 'medium' grey. Wings and stabs are Boeing grey.

Thanks
Ray
