Has there been any more talk about how many QANTAS would purchase? Do they still have options for about 50 of them? Yep, I reckon it would take a pretty brave soul to knock on the bank's door asking for up to $10 billion (over the delivery schedule), when the company has just posted a big loss. Sure the bulk of that loss was write downs, but still outside of that it was not a good result. I can understand QANTAS management deferring the 787 purchase until the house is in order. It's a more conservative approach I guess when considering some of their competition is killing it operating 777's and 787's (Air NZ as a example). For better or for worse, it's interesting to see how all this plays out - all well above my subject knowledge and comprehension of course!

Bring on the 787's! I for one can't wait to pax on one long haul to see if there is any measureable improvement in pax comfort as has been advertised (bigger windows, higher cable pressure, cool lighting, etc).

Good news for Qantas, don't worry Ray , the turning around of aircraft will be the same as before . Weather it's a 787 or other aircraft type !!

Yeah..... I think the perfect long haul mix for QF would be a 748/773/789 fleet. If it ain't Boeing I ain't going :D

This is great news! Jeez Ray - how long ago did we have that discussion regarding 767's/787's over at AMI?

Coming back from Whyalla yesterday night the Adelaide to Melbourne leg was in a fairly new 737-800. I was thinking to myself just how spoilt we are in this country as I ate my bangers n mash watching "The Avengers" on the little screen in front of me. The meal was pretty good and the movie a lot of fun - even though I missed half of it. Comparing this experience which was all too easy to that of a Ryan Air flight from Cork to London and back I did in January is like comparing a Ferrari with a base model Hyundai! The Ryan Air experience was absolutely awful. The seat was harder than the fibreglass bucket with 5 mm neoprene seat in the Laser I kid you not! You are assaulted by the vivid yellow and navy blue interior in Ryan Air - it almost hurts the eyes. The whole Ryan Air internet booking system is a complete farce - in fact designed to catch out the unwary. Screw up with the Ryan Air booking and it costs you lots! It I think is designed to catch out the unwary tourist (like I was) - you have to download their "App" to get your boarding pass, otherwise it's another cost. If you use them all the time, you know the ins and outs of their system. All this crap is in very fine and faint print - not user friendly at all. I just feel that as far as customer service, the customer is just a liability with Ryan Air - all in all a rotten experience! Here, QANTAS just make the whole process so easy - no hidden "spiders in the wood pile" to bite you. I honestly hope I never again have to fly Ryan Air - ever!

I as a pax cannot wait for a ride in the new QANTAS 787's! Quite a amazing financial turn-around huh! Hmmm, I wish I had the use of one of their bean-counters! :D

We are spoilt here with great service and I do think we have some of the finest airlines and airports here in the world.

When you mentioned uncomfortable seats I thought you were talking about Jetstar. Their seats are even less comfortable than a 75 year old Tiger Moth's front seat

Paul, gotta agree - must be the same ones that Scumbag Ryan Air get. Ryan Air seats are by out and far the worst I've ever sat in. The arm rests are fixed as well and seat to seat distance very tight. Passenger comfort is just non-existent.
