Yeah guys, excellent chat, but let's make sure that Kev's initial post questions have also been answered, if we can help him out.
Can someone help Kev with casting some props for his Do???

Revell Germany did the last version of the Do-X. Doesn't look like it's in their current catalogue, but you may be able to get some spares through them.

Pretending to do it TAC style with the big boys since 1987
Also, we don't need no steenkin' VLATs!

I've tried my hand at resin casting a few times too, and have yet to produce a usable part from my escapades. I have some silicone left, but no resin at the moment, and can't afford to buy any more right now. Still, I'm not in a hurry, and I'm usually happy to continue to fling myself at a problem until I resolve it or it kills me. But experimenting with resin is a costly exercise, and I reckon it would be cheaper to buy a whole new kit than duplicate these props in resin (certainly quicker, anyway!). I may end up just posing the thing with engines running, and acetate discs to represent spinning props. As I noted earlier, I don't find that look very convincing, but my options appear limited. I'll have to dig the kit out again and take a closer look at what I'm up against.

Looking back to your original problem re the props Id say you have two options (assuming you regard the 'discs' as kid's toy material).
1. Contacting Revell to obtain a replacement set. the last re-release of this Otaki/Matchbox/whatever kit was in 2010 so you may have a chance.
2. Rebuilding what you have. Make a 4 - blade jig and if any are lost, filing new ones from scrapped prop blades or resin casting new ones. Single blades are easy whereas a decent 4-blader is a real challenge.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks Ed. Not sure when I'll get around to the Do-X, but I'll probably do a build thread here when I do. And then you can all sit back and laugh at my expense!

I don't know about laugh. Cheer enthusiastically from the sidelines is more like it around here. I've got one of those too, and I'm now waiting on you to tell me where all the traps are.
