Republic Seabee

I was trolling the interwebz looking for Australian registered Cessna 172 floatplanes when I came across a rather nice looking Seabee nicknamed "The Flying Tadpole".

Does anyone have any memories of this aircraft, and more importantly, have any idea of the colours?? It just so happens I have the Glencoe kit in the stash..

I remember it well . The last time I saw it , was in a hanger at Tocumwal Airport about 25 years ago . I was delivering Avgas to the airport and spotted it in a hanger , didn't look to flash from what I remember.

That would have been around the same time I was in Deniliquin. Did the odd trip to Toc for maintenance, but didn't get much of a chance to poke around in the hangars.

Well....they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but she sure is not going to win any beauty contest. All the more reason why it would make a very interesting model.

My first flight ever was in a SeaBee from our dock on the Detroit River in 1948. I was given the really old Glenco kit recently but it is all clear plastic and no interior.

Hey Barney!

So nice to see you here at A/CAM! I'm in the process of building my Airshow Models Pitts Bulldog as a tribute to Jim Leroy. I'm not rushing it. I built the S2B some years ago - great fun build. These kits are now available through Fisher Models - did you know this or have anything to do with that? I'm really happy to see these amazing kits available to those of us who love these aeroplanes. Do you know what ever happened to the original owner of Airshow Models? He kind of disappeared off the planet - was his name Pete Groves?

Love your website and models!

All the best

Adam
