Drop out consequences

Postby tor lives » Thu May 07, 2015 9:06 am

Hi folks,
As a result of site drop-out over the last three days, it appears about a week's worth of posts have been lost. For those who have been effected.....please accept my apologies. I will continue to work with the site hosts to recover the lost posts but I am not optimistic this will happen. In the meantime, thanks to all regular and loyal A/CAMers for your continued support.
On another note, Site activity has had an alarming drop-off in recent times, and I am monitoring this closely to see where we go from here.

Thank goodness we're back! I've been in a cold sweat for the last couple of days with withdrawal symptoms! :?

OK....so the site is still a little unstable this morning, but our techs are working on things as we speak, (they seem to think that the lost posts can/will be recovered). My Site hosts are also taking this opportunity to do a few other long overdue "housekeeping" things such as getting rid of that bloody front page "paid membership" requirement, linking the A/CAM Site to the A/CAM FB page, and updating the site phpBB forum set-up to the latest version. When I get some time, I will also be deleting the forums that are not be used as these are only taking up space.

It's like A/CAM's "Annual/100 hourly". Glad we're out of the hangar Capt Ray and soaring through the burning blue again!

I usually consider the site to be at "Boeing" levels of tech reliability, but it is behaving more like an Airbus in the last 24 hours or so :D

Keep up the great work el Presidente. I too have had withdrawals during the hiatus. I have been rather quiet as I have just moved house and all the fun that entails. But rest easy as I have a dedicated modelling room that will be up and running in about 10 weeks when I get home from my next trip away. With this hopefully another couple of civvie builds complete :)

So much for a reliable host, things like this shouldn't happen, especially when it is planned maintenance. Pretty p*ss pore in my opinion.

I would be very disappointed with this Ray with you forking out so much to maintain this site and them not reliably backing up the server/site and losing stuff. imagine if this was a banking site of similar!

Whilst I am a bit pissed off, (to say the least), over the whole event.....in all fairness Ray, this is the only time we have hit a significant technical snag since the site started. And let's be honest, this is not something that hasn't been experienced by other model sites. As those fine winged products from Toulouse teach me on almost a daily basis, even the best of electro-magic fails on occasion :D . I am just grateful we were only "off the air" for a short time, and that we didn't loose to many posts, (which I am still being assured, will be recovered) .

Fair, enough Ray, I work with these sorts of systems every day and I suppose my frustration wore off not being able to get my ACAM fix :D

Understood and respected. I shared your frustration Ray, especially given that they were only to quick to hit me with my monthly bill in the middle of all this :?
