A Brace of Citations

I had a box with 2 Citations in it so I decided to build them both at the same time, colour schemes are generally boring as batshit on these so I rifled through my pics to find likely subjects, I am part way through decalling..

What a couple of beauties! I see the Citation I think belonging to Oxford at Moorabbin zoom over the house from time to time - looks great and sounds even better! If it's the one, I climbed in it once - hmmm, leather seats - noice!

hi guys, thanks yes it is the Hasegawa 1/48 kit. The LLoyd scheme is a standard Cessna factory scheme with the addition of the LLoyd titles, I copied the titles from their web site but it is not quite right "font wise" it is too anaemic, I have reworked it in Inkscape and will print some new ones. The Corpair VH-OIL is a company scheme (short - lived Perth Based operator).. you have no idea the time and many attempts it required to design the decals for this, application was a real bugger too very much less than perfect as the light colours have really low colour density. The kit decals were the standard scheme as per the LLoyd job but they were the wrong colours, I had to copy them using different colours, the wrap around the engine nacelles
challenging to sat the least. these will be 3 footers (again)

1/48 Hasegawa..
Corpair was a short lived GA operator at Perth Airport in the late 80s early 90s. At the time there was a Castrol commercial on TV which featured a certain "Louis" the driver of a Mafioso getaway car which broke down at an inconvenient moment, the disgruntled godfather type admonished the driver for not using Castrol with the line "Oils Aint Oils"
It was inevitable that every time this Citation was in an arrivals sequence, someone in ATC would say "Oils aint Oils" at some part of the coordination process, so this little jet has some nice memories associated with it and is a good subject for my display case.

As for dealing with a Citation (also known as a "Slowtation") was an absolute bugger to fit into a busy arrival sequence, with speeds varying at different parts of the descent profile from that of a jet (albeit a clapped out one) to that of a backfiring Cessna 172, the number of times we pulled a Citation out of the sequence and found another spot for them at the back of the queue are countless. I recall a Northwest bound Citation at cruising altitude in the high 20's doing 80 knots ground speed in the teeth of strong headwinds while many thousands of feet below a Partenavia and a Mooney overtook the highflier over the ground.

Enough reminiscing:




It actually isnt finished yet, got to put the pitots and an aerial on, final polish, overcoat, bit of weathering and final satin coat to go, but I will bring the Lloyds VH-SWC up to the same stage first.

Right Llloyds VH-SWC on it's legs now, both structurally complete except for the pitot tubes which will go on after all handling is finished. Not happy with the LLOYD titles will print better ones this am. After that I'll make sure the decals are all bedded down, coat, put in a few lines and a bit of light weathering (verry light!) then satin coat them.
