A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

That looks great Kev. The wreathing is beautiful and realistic.

Thanks Andrew. I feel like I'm getting some control of the process now.

How did I miss this one. A top model Kev, nice weathering job also. I tend to overdo my Japanese weathering on their aircraft at times as I do love the grunge factor.
I must have done my Rufe about 5 years ago only in the Grey scheme, it's a top little kit.
cheers

Thanks Wayne. I was originally aiming for something much more beat up with this one, but my natural timidity when it comes to weathering held me back, which was probably a good thing in the end!

kfutter wrote:Yep, Tamiya kit. I'd love to have a bash on the much newer Hasegawa kit. I'm also planning a 1/32 conversion too, using the Doyusha A6M2 and a Horizon vac conversion set I have (there are better options for both these days though). Nice job on yours by the way! When Tamiya released this kit, and for a long time afterwards, it was assumed that the overall light grey colour was as you depicted. As it turns out, it's actually much more like the underside colour I've used on mine. I painted mine using the new IJN set from AK Interactive, and these were based on research by Nick Millman. Decent paints, a bit like Vallejo Model Air.

hi Kev
i know about the newer colour's and if i'm doing factory fresh i do use the newer tamiya XF76,but like you i was going for a slightly weathered approach so i used the older styled colour to represent a weathered faded finish.

this was my first experiment...the grey one is the very old hasegawa kit the green/grey one is the very nice finemolds magazine giveaway kit.....i might just have to try the AK paints down track, where do you get them?

I received mine as a review sample directly from AK Interactive, but BNA has them in stock:
