I reckon you're right Dave. They won't be able to operate it and unless there's a big hangar there it'll just sit out in the weather and corrode away. I think Longreach is a much better option. If QF don't take it to Longreach, they may as well just take it to Victorville IMHO

have a look at the size of the hangars that HARS has at Albion park....the concept drawings have Hangar holding a 747 :shock:

VH-OJA has been put back to work. Doing a few more flights to Japan.

This is her movements for the next week or two.
28DEC14 - QF21 to Tokyo-Narita, back as QF22 on 30DEC14.
4JAN15 - QF21 to Tokyo-Narita, back as QF22 on 6JAN15.
11JAN15 - QF21 to Tokyo-Narita, back as QF22 on 13JAN15.

OK well I have just checked with our IOC and it seems your sources are correct. VH-OJA back in service till mid Jan, (and maybe thereafter if she is needed as an "air spare"). Got wind of her final fate as well, but that's not yet ready for public announcement.
Seems OJA is going to be the Boeing equivalent of John Farnham with all these "come backs" :D

The descion is made....HARS gets her!!!!

"Final home for OJA: This morning we have announced that we’re gifting VH-OJA City of Canberra, the very first B747-400 delivered to Qantas, to the Historical Aviation Restoration Society (HARS) museum at the Illawarra Regional Airport, southwest of Wollongong. This is a fantastic way to commemorate an important part of Australia’s aviation history. OJA will be on display to the general public as part of the HARS monthly open days, starting from the weekend of 15 March, when the aircraft will be officially handed over to the museum. The aircraft will join many other historic civil and military aircraft at HARS, including a former QF Super Constellation. Stay tuned for more information on this event and in the meantime, you can read more at the Qantas Newsroom."

I have never been to HARS but have meaning to go for years. Now I have even better reason to make the trek down the escarpment.

Also must get out to Temora again :D
