My Boeing 777 project

Postby F-27pax » Tue Dec 30, 2014 9:14 am

Seeing the discussion elsewhere that Zvezda are going to release a kit of the 777-300 reminds me to question my sanity in upgrading the Minicraft 777-200 to a -300. Of course it never occurred to me that anyone would ever kit a -300 so it seemed that the only way to get one was to get out the razor saw and other tools, buy the BraZ Models conversion kit and get to work. After my troubles with the 767 upgrade kit I was not confident in using this conversion kit but it turned out to work okay. The engines also came from BraZ models but I cannot remember now who made the new wingtips. All were purchased from Airline Hobby supplies. But if I were you I'd wait and see how the new Zvezda kit looks when it arrives.

The decals for the -300 come from Ric Warcup who makes quite a few decals for Virgin Australia airliners.

Very nice Liegh , I remember seeing these at Ballarat. We can only hope that Zvezda do a good job on the new 777.

Yep....there are 777 reasons why I really like this line-up Leigh. The same 777 reasons why we should be operating them!!

Nice ones Leigh, the wing tips are from Contrails, I have a set on my Virgin B777.

BTW what colour did you paint your gears wells and legs? Minicraft say white but I have seen a grey mentioned elsewhere.

I painted everything Boeing grey. The photos I've seen suggest it and it seems reasonable to me that since the grey that is painted on the aeroplanes is mainly a protective coating that the same paint would be used inside and out.

Ray; 'Jet A1 goes in ... and profits come out' LOL. Is that a Ray original?

Very nice Leigh! Wouldn't you know it, but I bought a Minicraft 777 at Expo last year, specifically for the purpose of converting to a -300 to suit the Hobbit decals I bought (also from Rich Warcup). I was going to do the conversion the hard way, but I'll have to wait and see how much the Zvezda kit costs before I weigh up my options.

Really nice 777's Leigh, really like the Virgin ine,
and as my daughter flew with them for a while it will be a future project.

I really don't think the cost will matter if the kit is as good as most Zvezda stuff is, it will be worth it

I'm sure you're right Graeme, but on my limited budget, if the kit is quite expensive (and most new ones are these days), I probably won't be able to afford it.
