Aerotech 1/32 Speed Spitfire

Postby kfutter » Tue Dec 23, 2014 11:54 am

Looks like I forgot one! Not sure if this strictly belongs here either, but it's Aerotech's 1/32 resin kit of the Speed Spitfire, an early Mk 1 airframe pulled off the production line and modified to have a crack at the land-based air speed record.

I'm not 100% happy with my finish on this one, as up close it exhibits quite a bit of orange peel. Looks good from 4 feet away though - the traditional four-footer! I need to borrow some of Eric's high gloss finishing techniques!

Thanks Paul! Wasn't the easiest of builds, and is very heavy! The fuselage and wings are a single piece of nearly-solid resin each. And the cockpit features sidewall framing made up of photo-etched frames that have to be inserted and attached into the cockpit opening from below. The trickiest part was probably the vac canopy though.

Yeah it definitely belongs here Kev.
This is just one lovely model and years ahead of it's time in terms of streamlining and general looks.....she is just a very pretty aeroplane.
Nice job mate....and eligible for inclusion in our new "Civil Aircraft" category next year at Model Expo, (which is only six months away  )

You did a great job on the spit Kev. I like these Aerotech kits. Definitely stand out from the crowd of 109's
