RS model, goes together well, no filling except where modified (removal of windows). The colour on the model is orange, not the reddish colour in the image
although it looks better.

I had to go refresh my memory, and found the story on the Ed Coates site, that this was indeed the aircraft that went missing with Ulm and 2 others somewhere near Hawaii

Magnificent and important work once again Fred. Really looking forward to seeing your work at Expo next year! Could you email some of your model photos to Ray for inclusion in the Gallery? I think it would be tremendous to see all your work there in one place.

What's the story with that attachment on top of the fuselage - some kind of generator for the radio? Looks like the Mk.1 version of a ram air turbine!

The Envoy had a large long range fuel tank, nearly 600 gallons capacity, installed that almost filled the cabin and separated Ulm and the navigator from the wireless operator who was located in the rear cargo compartment. It appears that entry to the cockpit and nav. position was through the front port window which had been replaced with a drop down panel. The wireless operator entered through a cabin door that replaced the small cargo door on the starboard side. The propeller/generator was above this position so I think your assumption that it was radio connected is correct. It had another similar but smaller generator on the port wing leading edge. There was also a trailing aerial guide at about the w/o position. It appears to have been well equipped but...
