OK folks....just an update.
Here is some relevant info about our new Civil Aircraft category received from the Model Expo Committee.

"the ME Committee approved the creation of a new category for Civil Aircraft. This category is complementary to the existing Airliners category and It is envisaged that it would encompass all of the items you list except helicopters (and gyrocopters) which already have their own category - Rotary Wing Aircraft. The question of "warbirds" was raised and the feeling was that if they were in overtly military finish it was most appropriate for them to go in the relevant military category".

So just to summarise....the new Civil Aircraft category is planned to be an "open" category, (just as the Airliner category currently is), and include the following:

· Executive/Business jets
· General Aviation types
· Former Military types in civil/commercial use, (including air racers, fire-bombers, and other specialist civilian agency use).
· Civil/Commercial Flying Boats/Sea Planes/Amphibians
· Civil/Commercial Airships
· Civil/Commercial Spacecraft
· Sports/Recreation Aircraft, (including gliders, hang gliders, para-gliders, hot air balloons’ micro-lights, home-builds, purpose-built air racers, purpose-built aerobatic types)
· Civil/Commercial UAVs
· Agricultural types
· Civil/Commercial “flights-of-fancy” / “what ifs” (WIFs)

Note that Warbirds in military schemes, and helicopters in all their forms are not eligible for entry into the Civil Aircraft category, (as more applicable categories already exist for these types....as stated by the Model Expo Committee above).
Note also (Paul ), that WIFs are IN!!!
It can't be said that the new category does not cover a wide scope or offer heaps of potential for colourful diversity....so get building blokes!!!

So to get this straight Ray, anything not for the new category still sits in the Airliner category. So, for example, what if I built a Twin Otter in 'Australian Regional' markings, being in Airliner markings would it be in the Civil or Airliner category?

As I envisage it, your call as the builder, (depending on your intent and the model subject matter).
It is not unlike say a DC-10 VLAT.....Airliner or Civil Aircraft category???? your call!!, (although with your stated example, I would personally suggest the Airliner category)
This new category has been designed as much as anything, to give the Airliner/Civil Aircraft model builder max flexibility, (much like this site).

It will be great to have you involved with the Category Eric. If the new category is to be a success we need as many participants as possible, (and big 1:32 scale models always have impact!!!! )
