While we are on Model Expo, can anyone give me a rational, coherent answer as to why there is no Civil Aircraft category this year and only a display table? It's not like it's difficult to add a category nor is it expensive to do so and Expo is far from broke, especially now it is a trading name of IPMS. There is indeed great interest and proven models available which there should be given you are asking for something to be added, so what's the hold up?

As I understand it Ace, it's a process. I have had informal discussions with Rene and others over this very issue and, long story short, we need to demonstrate that the numbers are actually there to justify a potential new category. I certainly accept this fact as fair and reasonable, so that is why this year's A/CAM display is so important......we need to demonstrate those numbers!!!. It is a prelude to a formal approach to the Model Expo Committee to perhaps consider a new Civil Aircraft Open category in the coming years. If a new Civil Aircraft category does get up, you can bet that, along with the Airliner category, A/CAM will be keen to sponsor it.

Brad I was looking after this last year up until I got made redundant in October and as such I had to let it go I'd like to apologise to everyone that had put in the effort and discussion on this topic for not seeing this through I just had something a little more important to deal with at the time. Like how I was gonna support my modelling habit. Oh yeah and the family I guess I reckon you might find a civvie category next year if the expected numbers of models for the A/CAM table this year are anything to go by. I guess as long as we can demonstrate we can put the numbers on the table, then hopefully it'll come to fruition.

Ray, process my bum. Putting in a new category is easy as they now have the computer system. The cost for a new category is negligible, especially if you offered to sponsor it with might even make it cost neutral or pretty close to it. It's so easy to change the categories they introduced huge changes when they broke with having an OOB category a few years ago and did it in one go. So we have established the cost is minimal, it's easy to do and there is plenty of interest and models already built...so why can't there be a category this year? I even wrote out the category and criteria last year on that other modeling site.

If it failed, then so be it, we didn't want it enough, experiment over. If it takes off, great. Having to go through this extended, labourious process for 1 new category seems to be unnecessarily delaying the categories introduction.

If I was the Model Expo Director I would certainly want to know that any new requested category was justified before I implemented it. As you mentioned, there is a cost involved, (be it negligible or not). If it is all so easy Ace, maybe you should become Model Expo Director . I come from an industry that is process/procedure driven.....consequently, I have no problem with the way the Model Expo Committee handles new category requests, they have a job to do.

Oh I have no problems in people wanting to know that there will be models for it. That's fine, but they all read the forums and are well aware of this site and the threads on that other modeling site as they get mentioned to me at IPMS meetings. We've already established there is plenty of support and models already. If it was just you or me wanting a category, that's a different story.

Running model shows is easy mate, you forget I have experience in doing so. I am not process driven and think in an unconventional way that is free of the usual limitations of doubt and authority, making it very easy for me to reach conclusions and make decisions. As for sitting on the Expo committee....I'd rather shit in my hands and clap.

Your call Ace, but I guess that sort of negates your right to tell them how they should be doing their job
I am very happy with the working relationship established between A/CAM and the Model Expo guys, they have been very open, friendly, and helpful, and consequently this site and it's owner will be willingly working within their framework.

I guess the Expo committee has to make sure that any interest in any new category has to be sustained . Otherwise you could end up with category suggestions just on somebody's whim . I want this , yeah and I want this,

Lay your cards on the table type of thing !! No cards .... "Or models in this case " .....well I' m sorry but you can't play then .This years A/CAM table will be an opportunity to show the Expo committee that we are indeed serious .
At the end of the day ,we have no control over it . So why don't we just play by the rules like every one else does.
Ray had the balls to start a new web site , so why don't we show the Expo committee we are serious about this by grabbing our balls and just get on with it ,..........and maybe ..just maybe next year we will be rewarded with a new civil aircraft category .

I think the Expo committee do a great job in what must a hard job at times.
