My Boeing 747 Project

I looked at my collection of kits and decals and saw that the only thing I was missing to make a complete set of Boeing 747s was the new Revell 747-8F. There will be eight 747s in the complete set; a 747-100, 747-200, 747-300, 747SP, 747-400, 747-400F, 747-8I and 747-8F. I think I'll give the Dreamlifter a miss, for the time being anyhow.

So, beginning at the start, here is a Boeing 747-100, which happens to be N747PA in the mid 1980s. It used an old Revell/Advent 747-100 with Two-Six Decals:


Next in the series is a Boeing 747-200, which is the the first Qantas one, probably as it appeared straight out of the factory in Seattle. It used an old Revell kit with Two-Six and Hawkeye decals:

Here's the next contribution to my 747 project. A 747SP in Australia Asia colours. The kit is by Welsh Models and the decals a combination of Hawkeye, Draw Decals, Cartograf and Microscale. This is not a kit that I would recommend to new starters but this one didn't turn out too bad.

With the Welsh kits do you need to scratch build the wheel wells or are they supplied?

Ray, the Welsh Models kit comes with everything you need including wheel wells. They are not easy to instal in the vacform fuselage, but it can be done. The decal sheet, which is for the early QF 747 livery, is excellent, but I didn't use if for obvious reasons.

Next off the production line is an Ansett Boeing 747-300, created by taking the extended upper deck from a Revell 747-400 and grafting it onto a 747-100 kit. Decals by Hawkeye. This model was the third to be made, before the 747SP, but an accident on the way to the paint shop for a minor touch up resulted in the need for some more serious structural repairs, now thankfully completed.

This clears the workspace for a Qantas 747-400, either Wunala Dreaming or a standard red tail version, depending on my modelling skills. Don't expect it to be completed any time soon. This is what it looks like at the moment
