Silhouette Portrait cutter

Postby Cap'n Wannabe » Thu Jun 26, 2014 6:18 pm

Just been looking at one of these:
http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/media/ ... rtrait.pdf

Looks kinda interesting...it's not just a cutter, it also has drawing pens....and can print white. Whether or not that's suited to decal paper, I dunno yet. Seriously thinking about getting one.

G,day Damo , these look really good . They can do a fair bit of stuff , might be good for unusual stuff like air races and custom jobs . They have a $200 dollar one , same motor and software as the $330 one . The smaller one will do A4 size stuff , which you would think is adequate for what we need it for . ;)

I've been looking at these as well. I like the look of it. I reckon it might be able to cut letters/numbers outta white decal paper. This alone makes it a great investment. Maybe after I get my tax return gets into my account. I also mentioned it to my Boss for her scrap booking and she seemed keenish :)

Hold that thought. My Boss, after looking at it is VERY keen to get one. Damn this girl is a keeper :D :D :D Now I guess I'll have to learn how to use the software to make decals for even more ideas

Looks interesting, but I'm too lazy to use something like this. I'd just buy decal sheets.

That's ok if you can get the decals. But for a lot of subjects you can't :)

Downloaded the software for it and had a bit of a play....also looked at a couple of youtube vids. Definitely think it's a worthwhile investment. It'll import files from other software, which is pretty important to me as I do all my original artwork in CAD, then export to other programs as required.
I was thinking the same re the white decal paper, Paul....not just letters, but other designs as well. It has an optical sensor to detect registration marks, so designing a decal sheet with the marks means it should cut the decals out pretty accurately....possibilities...

I thought of a cunning plan for this thing. I'll be able to cut out a shitload of canopy masks for various projects. Just think, no more buying canopy masks for the 100+ F-4s 8-) That'll pay for it let alone any other use I find for it :D :D :D Oh the ideas are coming thick and fast now dammit
