A new model theme emerges

Postby tor lives » Sun Jun 06, 2021 4:34 pm

Yep, its happened again :?
A new model theme is emerging in the Woodford model room, (why do I do this to myself? :? )
The new theme is simply known as "Infamous" and includes the many individual aircraft that have, over the years, attained an infamous and well-known reputation in the public psyce .....for whatever reason.
Included in the "Infamous" theme will be the following aircraft:
- Malaysia Airlines 777-200: Indian Ocean disappearance
- Air New Zealand DC-10 30: Mt Erebus crash
- Air France Concorde: Paris crash
- Uruguayan Air Force FH-227: Andes Mountains crash
- Air France A300B4: Entebbe hijack
- Korean Airlines 747-200: Russian shoot-down
- Pan Am 747-100: Lockerbie bombing
- Eastern Airlines L1011: Everglades crash (the ghost of Flight 401)
- Air Canada 767-200: Gimli fuel starvation incident
- TWA 747-100: JFK climb-out inflight explosion
- Malaysia Airlines 777-200: Ukrainian shoot-down
- Qantas A380-800: Inflight engine explosion
- Northwest Orient 727-100: D.B. Cooper hijack
- KLM 747-200: Tenerife crash
- Pan Am 747-100: Tenerife crash
- United 767-200: September 11 Twin Towers attack
- American Airlines 767-200: September 11 Twin Towers attack
- American Airlines 757-200: September 11 Pentagon attack
- United 757-200: September 11 Pennsylvania crash
- Iran Air A300B4; US Navy shoot-down
- Valujet DC-9 30: Everglades crash
- British Airways 747-200: Volcanic ash choke-up incident
- US Airways A320: Hudson river ditiching
- TWA 727-200: Middle East hijack
- Japan Airlines 747-100SR: Explosive decompression and crash
- Air India 747-200: Atlantic Ocean bombing
- United 747-100: Explosive decompression
- United DC-10 10: Sioux City crash
- Aloha Airlines 737-200: Explosive decompression
- Air Florida 737-200: Potomac river crash
- British Air Tours 737-200: Manchester runway fire
- BOAC VC10: Dawson's Field hijack
- TWA 707-300: Dawson's Field hijack
- Swiss Air DC-8 53: Dawson's Field hijack
- Pan Am 747-100: Dawson's Field hijack (Cairo)
- British Airways BAC111 500: Explosive decompression (cockpit window)
- Qantas 747-400: Bangkok runway overrun
- Swiss Air MD-11: Inflight fire and crash
- Delta L1011: Dallas wind shear crash
- PSA 727-200: San Diego mid-air collision and crash
- Delag Hindenburg: New Jersey fire and crash
- British Midland 737-400: Kegworth crash

Due to space considerations, all widebody aircraft will be 1:200, while the narrow-bodied aircraft will be 1:144.
I have left military aircraft alone (except in one case), as that would be its own comprehensive list.
So.....the stash- build and decal- collecting for this extensive list of aircraft is now underway, (see Swap and Sell for kits I am after).
Hopefully this theme will get me my modeling mojo back, (it has been gone for a long time  ).
I was actually going to suggest we do this as an A/CAM Group Build but, but as history has shown, we are not particularly good at Group Builds
If anyone feels that a significant aircraft/event has been left off this list, and really should be there.... please feel free to make the suggestion.
TOR

PS: I think its worthwhile pointing out that this exercise is not about cynically or morbidly focusing on tragedy and loss of innocent human life but rather....it should be seen as a three dimensional series of aviation history reflections and lessons. All aircraft in this theme will be built and displayed in pristine condition, with only the regos giving a hint as to the eventual fate of each. By definition and default, the theme itself becomes its own subtle and silent tribute to all those lost in these events, (some of which directly contributed to the world in which we currently live).

What about Singapore Airlines Fight 006 747-412 (9V-SVK) that tried to take off on a closed runway in Taipei back in Oct 2000?

Yeah, I had considered that one, but it carried the special "Tropicana" scheme (one of two that did), at the time of the crash... and I cant find that as a decal anywhere.
I will keep it in mind though, and maybe just do it in the standard SQ scheme.

There is a decal available, but it's from that guy,
https://modelarstwoalexander.auctivacommerce.com/s32944/Silk-screened-decal-for-Singapore-Airlines-tropical-Boeing-747-400-in-scale-1200-P5983018.aspx
so I wouldn't trust the bastard...

You might have better luck with a diecast... but still very pricey!

How about a 1/200 Hindenburg instead:
https://www.papermodelsheet.com/epages/62161825.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62161825/Products/S-570
It's only 1.225m long!

Don't know if I am willing to take a chance on our buddy in Brazil. :?
I have given the Hindenburg a lot of thought, (there is certainly no doubt she is "infamous" for many reasons), but she maybe a little too big.
Besides, for historical accuracy, she needs to be carrying the swastika on her tail feathers, and I don't think that is publicly acceptable/allowable anymore.
I don't really want to go down the diecast path for now.

I see a few future purchases in that lot at the next Ray Sale     As for the swastika, who gives a sh!t mate? It's called history and it shouldn't be rewritten because of the hurt feelings by a bunch of muppets. Any model I do that wore it in real life will be getting one and IDGAF. There's too much PC bullsh!t around these days and quite frankly, I have no time for those soft c&ck whiners that have nothing better to do than be offended at the latest "offensive" thing

You are of course absolutely correct Paul...... I am totally PC-fatigued.
I read recently that the European model shows will now not allow the public display of the swastika in ANY form  .
I am with you, in that any model I build will be historically-accurate regardless of the outraged "snowflake" brigade. I am not prepared to alter history to appease the wowsers.
