The "prototypes" theme

Postby tor lives » Sat Apr 13, 2019 6:04 pm

Hi guys,
One of many areas-of-modelling interests and themes I have is that of "the prototypes".
I just love the colourful schemes and historical significance of many of the prototypes.
Indeed Knotty and I have had the privilege of seeing many significant aircraft prototypes in the flesh on our many aviation USA "trek-a-bouts", (including the first F-111. the first F-18, and the XB-70)
Here is my "prototype" theme stash at the moment:

One prototype I want to add to the collection is the very first F-111 63-9766....as seen at Edwards AFB on our last trip there.

To that end, I am trying to track down a Revell 1:72 F-111 in either the "TFX", "USAF", or "RAAF" boxing.

If you have one of these in your stash and are willing to sell....please yell out.

Built this one :

as a Kid (complete with retractable undercarriage and detachable Cockpit if i recall correctly) :

They go for the proverbial fortune on ebay nowadays - should have kept it unbuilt as part of a Superannuation "Plan"!

This one :

was the one I really wanted to buy back then as it had parts for the proposed Navy variant but strangely enough - or maybe not strangely enough as the RAAF version would have arguably been more popular in Australia - it was hard to find in Australia.

I built the Mirage 2000 and 1/48 YF-16 as a kid. Not sure what other prototypes I have in the stash but I do have this. Finally got one for a good price after searching for a while :)

My main theme is 'Captured'. I reckon I've got 15 or more decal sheets worth of captured aircraft. I also have a Falklands War, Tiger Meet and Cuban theme going.
