Odd scale

G'day folks..
Today I received a Hawk Vickers Viscount in the mail. The scale on the side of the box is 98 1/8....what the hell does that mean in "real" scales?
I measured the fuselage, and compared it to the real deal, and it works out to be slightly above 1:102..

I have no idea know what the "98" represents but the "1/8" represents "1 Inch equals 8 Feet" which is 1 Inch equals 96 Inches or 1:96 which as Ray points out is what the Kit is supposed to be.

If you wanted to build it with a local flavor, Glencoe did issue this kit with TAA decals.....maybe someone might have this sheet spare.

I've actually got the Glencoe kit in the stash....just found it! It comes with two liveries - Capital Air and BEA - which is great because the Hawk decals are toast.

Yeah, Hawk/Glencoe did the same with their Convair 880 jetliner kit.....I think that one ended up being 1:126 or there abouts.
Revell used to similar with their early airliner kits.

Interestingly...or not...my Glencoe kit came without the window parts. The instructions suggest filling the holes with PVA glue instead.

Just to clarify though 1:96 is not an "odd" scale - it is (was) a well established Imperial scale.

Although obviously as Imperial measurements have faded away (except of course in the US of A) 1:100 has taken over as the closest "Metric" scale.
