In this photo, you can see where the putty has set on the joint of the wing. I've given it a quick wet sand with 600 grit..

And here's how it fits so far...almost perfect. I still need a touch more putty at the leading edge, but you get the idea, I hope..

Finally got the wings and horizontal stabs on so it looks more like a plane now. Fit wasn't too bad with just a bit of putty needed. After this pic, it got hit with a coat of grey primer as did the engines. I've just realised that the bottom of the fuse on this jet looks like it's actually painted grey and not NMF as I first thought. A bit more research but this just made painting a little easier :)

Cap'n Wannabe wrote:So I'm trying a technique I read about somewhere to get seamless joins on badly fitting wings/tailplanes after painting. Basically it goes like this:

1. Put cling wrap over the joint.
2. Tape the parts together.
3. Fill the gap with putty.
4. When dry, separate the parts and sand the putty to blend in.
5. Paint the parts, then glue..

Essentially, what you're doing is building up one part to fit the other.

We'll see how it goes.

So I could use this technique for say between the engines and fuse of a 727 so that the engines could be stuck on after the decals being applied in that area. Hmmmm very interesting

Yep. That's exactly what this technique is designed for.

The think I'm loving about this group build is seeing all the different ways we make the same model. And picking up a few new ideas too.

I must agree Leigh...... this Challenge Build is the best thing to happen for our little model site in a long time. I am surprised and impressed with all those airliner-builders coming out of the closet :D . All credit to Brad for instigating the concept.

Believe it or not there are actually quite a few A300/A310/A320/A330/A340/A380 kits residing in the stash.
The thing I find ironic about Airbus model kits is that the seem to be made out of the same material as the real thing :D .
