HMAS Collins

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

HMAS Collins

I know it's not a plane but it's military so that's why it's in here. As part of an Australian GB on a FB page I'm on, I was having trouble deciding what to build. I thought I'd kick it off with my first ever ship/sub. I'm using the excellent Showcase Models 1/350 HMAS Collins kit. It should be a quick and easy build from everything I've read about the kit. This is a bit of ship building practice as a bit later on I'll be building the 1/600 Ozmods HMAS Voyager for my Uncle-in-law who was serving on her on the fateful night she collided with HMAS Melbourne. So this is where I'm upto so far tonight :)

A bit more work on this. Got it all together bar the propellor which I'll add towards the end of the build. Having fun doing this :)

We're gonna have to get Ray to amend the title of this section to Air & Naval base! :-)

Looking good there Paul so far.

Got some colour on this. Have finished the black tonight so it's a bit further along than the photo :)

Getting there on this one. Decals are on so I'll wait for them to dry then hit the lot with flat coat. Still need to paint the prop as well. Great little kit :)

NIce work Paul, I had a resin Collins for a while, ended up selling it. Looks like the Showcase kit goes together with little fuss

Well she's done. Finished my first ship tonight. What a cracker build. This kit is brilliant and I'm really happy with how this came out. Now to do a couple more ships in preparation for the previously mentioned HMAS Voyager build.

Great job there Paul and very well presented. It's also nice to hear positive comments on a build to - what we do is supposed to be fun! :-)
