mustathon done........or is it?

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

mustathon done........or is it?

as most of you will know last year i built a batch of mustangs.....well the last two are finally done  ..all i was waiting on were decals..i was planning on using generic white numbers and letters...but couldnt find the...then i asked Custom hobby Deecals and he said he would do them....so after picking up the decals at expo i finally gt around to using them....and their quite nice.
so first we have VH-IVI painted in a dark yellow scheme in 1969...it's the Aifix 1/72 kit out of box just with new decals.

and the second one is NX-1204..a former Paul Mantz aircraft that he bought in 1946 and was raced extensively in the 40's ..it was modified at some stage with a wet wing for long distance racing(i havent modeled it like that though) and was used to fly the reels of the Coronation of Queen Elisabeth from Goose Bay Labrador to boston....it currently is fully restored to full military spec with Kermit weeks as "Ina the Macon bell"
it's the 1/72 Revell P51B kit all out of box bar the decals.

really nice collection of 'stangs

One small comment though, in 72nd scale with the D model, the open canopy always sits down on the fuselage, it runs in that groove that is behind the canopy.
This is actually quite hard to do with both the Tamiya and Airfix kits, as the plastic on the inside of the canopy is a bit too thick even after you carve it up, easier to use an aftermarket one
Hasegawa on the other hand got it right from the get go, and it sits down perfectly

A lovely lot the Paul. You obviously have enough Mustangs built for the squadron!

Keep them coming :D
