Model Expo 2018 done and dusted

Postby tor lives » Mon Jun 11, 2018 11:23 pm

Well....she is all over again for another year, and what a great event it was.
Both categories we sponsor saw very healthy numbers entered, and I am pleased to be able to report that some of our own A/CAMers placed very well in both the Airliner and Non-Military categories. Big congrats to Paul, Brock, Knotty, Troy, and Eric on your trophy hauls.
I would also like to thank all A/CAMers who once again contributed to our very successful and well-received club display this year. The "usual suspects" fronted up with many simply superb models, thus ensuring that our tables were chock-a-block full of colourful modelling goodness for all to enjoy. And a special thanks to Damo for the design and production of another magnificent display banner....thanks mate, you always come through with the goods!!!
So, lets have a quick look at the A/CAM display for this year......over to you Troy, (looks like you were photo-bombed by Frank :D) :

It was great to meet some A/cam faces and even better to see my old mate Graeme down from the far North.
Managed to sell most of my booty at the Swap N Smell but came away with a very pissed of attitude regarding the out & out low life, spiv who tea leafed the complete clear sprue from my 1/48 Monogram B-24J
Liberator kit I had for sale (hence making it unsaleable) when I wasn't at our table.

The kit is not exactly in abundance in model shops either and usually cost a few bob, so not a happy camper with that episode. But, still enjoyed the rest of it, some nice models on the table and the A/Cam table was spectacular. Didn't buy much, a couple of kits and a few books. having to get up at 5am makes for a long day.
Still enjoyed myself in the company of some good mates and meeting old friends.

Cheers
Wayne

A really brilliant w/e and great to catch up with most of you. Had some great chats and very impressed with many of the entries - very inspiring and motivating. I came close, but not close enough to finish my little Spatz in time. I pulled the pin on finishing it at 9:00AM Saturday when it finally dawned on me I had a few good hours to spend finishing it and I just did not want to rush it any more.

I attended a excellent talk/demo given by the gifted Norman Lim Chee Seng (he built that mind blowing Pumpkin Tomcat - 500 hours of painting in that!) on Monday which was well worth the time spent. It was all about colour and tone variation with light. I'll try some of his techniques as I'm heading down that path already. This is more for military stuff - of little use for airliner painting, yet some pre-shading and grim effects could make a airliner pop - may have to give this a go one day! :-)

Well done to Paul for winning the Civvie catagory with your Spitty, a truly David & Goliath effort there! Well done Knotty getting that gong for best Aussie civil a/c. Regardless of final placings, I'm amazed and inspired by the works of Unci Les and the Great Galliers - as usual!

I'll upload some of my pic's when I get a chance.

An awesome event once again, though I think Ray slipped something into my drink during saturdays ACAM lunch. How did these join my stash???

B707-200, B737-800 and B787-8

Thankfully Horizon models came to the rescue to even it up a bit.

I was very proud to have my 737 among the other entries in the Airliner category. Must have been why I was so inspired.

Heres a link to my expo photos.

Look out mofos. I'm back from my self imposed exile     This year was my first year in the last 5 that work hasn't screwed me over by being away. Had an absolute ball and it was awesome to run into a few peeps I hadn't seen for a while. Especially Graeme Harris all the way from Townsville. I picked up my first ever expo win for my shitty little Spitfire in the civvie category which was a surprise. Kinda funny considering I don't enter to win. But the highlight for me was my little man Brock getting 1st and 3rd in junior aircraft. One very proud Dad that's for sure. The expo commitee did another great job I thought. Well done to ALL entrants, not just the placers. There were so many cool models of all kinds which was great to see. Well done to you ACAMer lot for a cracker display. It was truly epic in my mind. Thanks also as Ray said to Damo for the banner. Top shelf work mate. I didn't spend as much as I thought I would've but no I've got some left over for some shelves for the cabinet. With Brock building as well, i run out of room rather quickly. Anyways peeps time to work out what to build for next year. There's only 360ish days to go :)
