Vale Fred Harris

Postby hrtpaul » Sun Jun 03, 2018 1:49 pm

Just saw on Modelart's FB page that Fred Harris passed away last night. He was a top bloke. He was a great modeller that was both humble and had time for anyone. His experience and knowlegde was boundless and he always shared it where ever he could. I personally will miss him as we had many great conversations. RIP my friend and you wiss be sorely missed

I am gutted to hear of Fred's passing :(
Apart from being just a lovely bloke to be around and have a good chin-wag with, Fred was an avid supporter of our little site from day 1, and for his support and encouragement I will always be grateful.
Fred has left a hole in our modelling fraternity that will not soon be filled.
Thanks for everything Fred, and may you enjoy your modelling for eternity at that big model desk in the sky.
Rest easy mate.
Regards

Maybe introduce an award/competition category in his honour at some stage perhaps?

He was a lovely ol' bloke, he will be missed.

Very sad to read of this, only met and spoke with Fred a few times at different Expos, but a top bloke indeed :(

expo will seem a little odd without him wandering around and talking to anyone willing to listen ...his knowledge of Australian aviation was astounding.
Fred you have a well earned rest you will be missed by all in our little world.

i think an award in his name would be a great tribute to him.

I'm saddened to hear this news. Fred was one of those rare people who made you feel like a life long mate every time I saw and spoke to him.
He's going to be sorely missed by many in the modelling fraternity. RIP my friend and may you find more new friends where ever you wander next.
An award category formalized at Expo would be a fitting tribute to a very great and humble gentleman.

Whilst I didn't know Fred, I did know he's been one of the long time stalwarts and a modelling legend down here. So, it is indeed sad to hear the passing of someone with such skill and willing to share his modelling knowledge to others. I hope AMI don't mind, but I looked up some of Fred's work in their gallery and thought I'd post here for us to admire and perhaps inspire. Anyone who can build and make 1/72 look realistic is a legend in my mind, Anyone who scratch builds in this scale - doubly so! To me a good measure of a person's personality and life is reading all the comments when that person passes. Fred was indeed admired and loved by many - a great man. Vale modelling legend!

Do I recall correctly that Fred displayed some of his models on the A/CAM table in past Expo's - I'm thinking the "Movie Star" display? It was his Flight of the Phoenix" models were they not? I remember taking photos these and no doubt uploaded onto Photobucket. Not being prepared to be swindled on a monthly basis by PhotoF_ckit, I've probably lost those photos unless they are on a old memory card for my camera. Does anyone have any photos of these models of Fred's - pretty sure I'm right these being his builds.
