1/144 DC-1

Here is work so far on a DC-1, a fairly simple conversion of a CMR 1/144 DC-2

I've been waiting for some tail fins to arrive from CMR and they have finally arrived, so now this little beauty is about to enter the paint shop, not a great challenge.

All I am missing now is some TWA decals from another CMR 1/144 DC-2 kit which will do most of the work of dressing up the model. I'm sure that I was talking to someone on this forum about getting some from them that they didn't want but it's been so long that I've forgotten who they were. Please reveal yourself mysterious modeller.

I was going to say I bet you it was Graeme but I wasn't going to be so bold as my memory isn't as good as it was .....

but .....

I was right! :

So maybe the old memory isn't as bad as I thought. (Then again Graeme invariably has the answer to everything so I can't get too cocky!)

Leigh, it very probably was me, I don't remember either, will have a look at my CMR kit, can't remember if it had TWA or not, but if it does I will send them

Nice work. Just curious, how much in scale did you remove? It didn't effect
the wing roots? Thanks---John

Thanks Graeme, it's coming back to me now.

John: I forget the precise measurement now but the DC-1 had accommodation for 12 rather than 14 and it turned out that one widow was just about right. Taking out that window did stuff up the front wing root quite a bit. In theory the wing should be a couple of mm back from where it is on my model, but I won't tell if you don't and that little sacrifice saved some really serious surgery.

Difference in length is 2 feet 6 inches according to Wikipedia.

Which would equate to 5.29167 mm in 1:144.

OK, decals found and sent, so on with the other bits, while Australia Post finds a couple of horses for the pony walk down the country.

Pity Cliffy Young isn't around anymore he could have done it in a couple of days.

Thanks Greame, now I'll have to finish it!

On the shorter length of a DC-1, that 5mm sounds about right, It doesn't sound like much but I hope to see the difference when I put this DC-1 alongside a DC-2. If it's not obvious I'll be disappointed.

You might be disappointed as it's hard to pick if only glancing at photos :

The decals arrived yesterday Graeme. Thanks, they will be very helpful. Today the carpet monster ate one of the propeller blades so there is another delay in completion. Never fear, there will be a Plan B and even a Plan C when I think of them.
