DesTROYers 1/72 RAAF Dakota

Here's what I have been playing with the last few weeks. A Airfix 1/72 C-47 B Dakota, all OOB except for the decals that will go on in the next week or so. I was going to do a 2 Squadron Dakota, but I received some paints to try out and do a review on that matched this scheme, and decided to do this scheme first. The other kit is in the stash and ready to go when I am.

Here are the paints I'm giving a go. Mission Models paints, imported by the Airbrush Megastore in South Australia, where I get the spare parts for my Airbrushes from. They're quite good and the colours can be sprayed right from the bottle, or mixed with a few drops of thinner and a drop of polyurethane hardener which really gives the paint some ruggedness. They spray on really well and are very forgiving to a bum like me who has a habit of spraying on too thick at times. No runs in the paint at all :)

Very nice there Troy - great work so far! Boy, those "trenches" on that Airfix Dak are impressive! It would be interesting to find out why Airfix use such massive panel lines. The plastic they use tends to be a lot softer than say Tamiya or Hasegawa, so I'm thinking much lower extrusion pressures - hence softer and larger panel lines. In my honest opinion, I think they'd be better with no panel lines in 1/72. Or, do as in the real thing and have overlapped panels and shit loads of rivets!

Be that as it may, you're doing a killer job once again!

Nice work Troy the paint differentiation looks effective.

Which Squadron do the markings belong to?

Decals are now all on and settling. I will be ready to seal them in the morning, then on to weathering during the week ahead.

She's going to look great in the cabinet with the rest of the Cargo planes when finished.

As I got the decals done fairly early in the day, I got stuck into another small project that is a gift for my Specialist. I love these Bandi Kits. A quick cleansing build.

I'll add some Aerial wires over the holiday break, but for now, this Dakota is done. It's been a really fun build. So much so that halfway through I bought another one to do next year. I am really happy with the seams I filled on this one too. My only regret is two of the windows that did not seat properly when the glue was drying overnight. Oh well, live and learn.

Damn, just noticed I left the tape over the landing lights.
