I would have thought that there might be a potential (admittedly small) market for the A380 as a replacement for high density 747s in the Japanese market. But is it just too big for that market or doesn't that market exist anymore?

To add a little balance, except for Atlas / Polar freighters, there are no B747-8 in the US either at the moment, and after Donald went ballistic about the price tag on the new Air Force Ones they are converting a couple of White Tails ordered by TransAero of Russia who have gone belly up that were stored in the Desert, so they will soldier on for a hundred years as Donald uses Trump One most of the time, only uses the VC25's when he goes overseas, that is of course if Donald gets re-elected

This is not just about the -8 Graham......ask yourself how many 747s of all models have been flown by US operators, as opposed to the A380??. And this is not just subjective "anti-Airbus" sentiment, as I freely acknowledge and respect that Airbus as been hugely successful in penetrating the US market with the A300, A310, A320, and A330. The fact is though that the A380 is and always has been the wrong aircraft at the wrong time, and the glaring lack of sales to US operators more than adequately demonstrate this point.
