DC-4 and DC-6 Water Bombers

Postby erussell » Wed Mar 11, 2015 7:31 pm

I need a bit of help for a couple of customers. I am looking for some modelling information about DC-4 and DC-6 water bombers.
Was there a 1/72 DC-6 option for a water bomber?
Are there any conversion parts relevant for DC-4 or DC-6 models - do they have much commonality?
Are there any decals still available for water bombers of this type.
If we get anywhere I promise to let you know as I realise these tankers are quite popular amongst civil air modellers.

G'day Ed,
Heller did release a version of their classic 1:72 DC-6 as a dedicated fire bomber.....it occasionally pops up at at swap & sells and on ebay.

The best bloke to talk to though is Knotty......what he doesn't know about fire bomber kits is not worth knowing.

Heller made a Water Bomber version of their DC-6 way back in the '90's, never heard of a DC-4 Water Bomber conversion.

Good luck finding one

G,day Ed , the Heller kit is your only option in 1/72 .
The excellent Red Roo conversion is the go for the DC-4 . The tank off the DC-6 will fit the DC-4 , even the up coming Revell release I would imagine .you could even scratch build a tank as most were.
Leading Edge models did some very nice Conair water Bomber decals for the DC-6 ,not sure if they are still available.
There is also a great Facebook site for Firebombers , lots of excellent photos with lots of detail shots also . Some modellers also post photos . I can email you some photos if you like of some DC-4s and sixes . Just let me know , as Ray said I have a heap of stuff on Fire bombers of all types . Draw Decal also have some excellent Fire bomber decals , DC-4 s , B-17s , DC-10, Avengers, Helicopters, Broncos ,P-3 Orions , .........you name it . A lot of the 4s & 6s had generic paint schemes, which wouldn't be hard to do , all you really need are some numbers for the tail and you would be right .

Many of you are aware that we released a Red Roo DC-4 and DC-6 water bomber conversion earlier this year. It was very nice except one kind customer pointed out some mistakes in the decals. We have now fixed these - a somewhat protracted effort but it's done. So........ two things..
1. We believe we have caught up with all customers who bought one and will send them replacement decals.
2. If you are after one, they will be back in stock very soon. If you are not on our email mail list, we suggest you join it.

Hi Ed. I'll have to grab a set of the 'correct' decals off you as I haven't been contacted as yet. Then again I did get the conversion directly from Gary's place so maybe that had something to do with it. This once again is an outstanding example of customer service by Red Roo. It's no wonder you guys relieve me of so much cash. If you could put them aside for me, I'll pick them up next week sometime when it's convenient to save you guys some postage. Cheers mate :)
