Some progress with the chopping and reassembly.

I filled all the cabin windows with CA from the inside and continued to reassemble the chopped-off bits.

Also added some nose weight in preparation for joining the halves together.

The fuselage is buttoned up, I used tube glue to get a good bond and also added a lot of tabs to try and reduce split-level seams. It worked for the most part.

There are some gaps to fill. The moulds are showing their age with the slightly short shot fuselage halves (aft of the wheel bay opening). I also have the characteristically depressed rear lower fuselage section to fill and re-contour.

And getting the hump mods sorted, I started to fill the depression with CA. will slowly build it up.

Excellent (and brave) work there Ray using the upper deck offcuts to complete the roof of the "gap".

If I ever get around to doing something like this I'm going to take the easier way out and "pair" up -200 to -300 and -400 to -400F (or AF1) conversions so that the "decks" 'just" do a "switcheroo".

Lots of work to do though to "fix up" the Revell -400. Pity they didn't get it right in the first place or that there is not an after market correction for it but as the saying goes "Life wasn't meant to be easy".

Cheers Rob,

The first failed attempt I tried the pairing, but I decided to swap the wing root sections between a -200 and -400 kit instead. A lot more work and plenty of issues with seams popping from handling. I don't have a spare -200 this time around so I thought I do the same I did with my Zvezda 747-8f conversion.

And yet their 1:144 747-100/200 is the best of it's type in that scale, (especially compared to the Nitto offering in 1:144  ) .....how could they get the 744 so wrong???

If you can get your hands on their current E-4 or 747 SCA kit, you have, by default, the 747-200.

The funny thing is I seem to remember that Revell actually made some corrections to the -400 after it's initial release in response to some Reviews but obviously these "biggie" issues didn't get raised at that time (probably because everyone was just happy to get a -400 or at least something that looked like one). Must try and dig up some of those early Reviews when I am home next.

I have both kits Ray, but they are for builds as -200 :-)

Be interesting to see how many 1:144 -300 s have been modelled over the years? There was one on here (Ansett no less?) wasn't there?

Not going to attempt the removal of the wing-to-body leading-edge fairing.....I will just have to live with it :?
