A pox on religion!

Yep....I am no great fan of ANY of the major religions, and the damage they have done throughout human history.

LOL like I said I only think about this stuff when I'm bored!
I just finished reading a biography on Kurt Tank written in the early fifties, book was pretty light on, hard to read from german translation I expect..
I will be starting my 3 week walk on the South West Coastal path on wednesday, time for a few more air museums after I think

Hi Wally, hope your trip is going well.

LOL like I said I only think about this stuff when I'm bored!

Wally if you really wonder about the the present political scene in the U.S. and even worldwide. I would recommend you read two books by Joachim Fest, a German author who lived through those terrible years
and saw what utter evil can do to a nation and its people. The titles are below and probably cheaper to buy in the UK than here.

a) The Face Of The Third Reich, Portraits of the Nazi Leadership by Joachim Fest.

b) Hitler, by Joachim Fest. This is probably the best volume available on this subject.

Georges Sorel once said, A forest takes a century to grow, it burns down in a single night.

Both books will make you think about the human race. I could draw parallels with many political parties with the first title.

The Book Depository would possibly have them. I don't think you will be bored reading these titles, the second makes a good door stop at 840 odd pages.

Cheers
Wayne.

How about the Viking religion - far more interesting than Christianity (yawn!). Hey, why have just one "God" when you can have a bunch of them - all with the same screw ups and failings as we humans!

For example, Thor the God of thunder and battle - well, I see Thor as the "soccer hoodlum" god. Thor largely got drunk and had fights with frost giants. The sound of thunder is his mighty hammer Mjolnir cracking the heads of these frost giants. One such giant is said to have connected a ocean to Thor's drinking horn during a meed drinking contest - bastard! Thor is probably the most popular of Viking Gods.

Freya - hmm, where does one start with Freya the Goddess of love and sex? Well, her brother Loki (God of mischief) once accused Freya of sleeping with all the Gods and Elves. She slept with a bunch of dwarves as she wanted a necklace that they'd made - greatly pissing off her husband (Loki dobbed her in). Freya is the original party girl who got whatever she wanted using whatever means at her disposal.

Loki - well, he's all about mischief and playing tricks and lying to the other Gods. Loki is a bit of a unsavoury character.

Odin is the "Ruler", the God of war and death, god of wisdom and poetry. One eyed as he sacrificed one to drink from the fountain of wisdom, Odin would change shape and take human form at times and had two ravens called Hugin & Munin. Odin also had a very cool 8 legged horse. Party central is Valhalla - Odin's hall in Asgard (Viking heaven). Viking's got to Valhalla by bravely dying in battle.

So, whilst the Vikings were a bit on the brutal side, they set up the major trade centres and trade routes across Europe. Their "religion" was really a extension and reflection on the human condition - we're all a bunch of screw ups and the Gods are even worse! Perhaps we can learn from these screw ups the Gods make?

Tuesday is named after Tyr - great fighter with lots of courage! Wednesday is named after Odin. Thursday is named after Thor. Friday is named after Freja. So, the Viking Gods are still with us in a way.

Drivers seem to be freaken nuts at the moment. I've driven past 2 serious accidents, was nearly clipped crossing the road (with the green walk signal) and have witnessed several people run red lights in the last 2 weeks. Is it really that hard not to do something completely stupid while driving a car?

Nice. Postie has been slack this week. Besides a t-shirt, I've had nothing to unwrap. :)
Good news is it's set to be a wet and wild weekend. A good excuse to lock myself away in the office and extend pants off Friday until Sunday. That is except for Saturday morning where I have to head out and renew my Drivers Licence with a new Photo. Man, I will have to get actually dressed in clothes other than tracksuit pants and an old t-shirt and even tidy up the beard.... On a fraking Saturday.
