There's absolutely no f*^king need for that kind of cruelty PERIOD       Not cruel I hear you say? Think abut how a venomous snake feeds and what the venom ACTUALLY does other than kill the prey item. My mate had a snake show with all the venomous snakes including the top 3 in the world in the show and he didn't have to resort to this barbaric treatment of his animals. It's called understanding and caring for the animal, not being a gungho dickhead and having a bit of commonsense when handling the animals. Redbacks and White tails are another matter. When we lived in Cairns, I used to trail ride and rode full belt into one of those bird eating spiders and its nest, that was a fun day........not.

When I become the Imperious leader of the People's Glorious Technocratic Republic of Lostralia, my first policy will be spider eradication. I reckon I could easily get a Senate seat with this policy. Who here will vote for the "NO SPIDERS" party?

Of course heavily spider infested areas will require more positive means of eradication.

They looked quite healthy and they were probably done before it was banned for anything other than therapeutic reasons several years ago. I realise that is it a controversial topic, but there is no data available on the digestive efficiency of a snake that eats an envenomed prey, as opposed to those who don't. The only thing that is recommended is that they are fed dead prey only, to reduce the chance of being injured, but it's been noted that when presented with dead prey, some snakes don't choose to inject it. In any case, devenomed snakes have no problems digesting their food.

I am not a fan of animal exploitation for entertainment purposes period. Weather it be bears, tigers, elephants, killer whales, dolphins, chimps, snakes, or what ever, it is entirely inappropriate and completely immoral to exploit animals in this way. The arrogance of human kind never ceases to amaze me.

Depends how it's done really Ray. Poor operators who mistreat animals should be shut down, but there are many reputable organisations that treat their animals well, like the Melbourne Zoo. Much like owning a pet, those who mistreat them shouldn't be allowed to, but I think most people who own pets look after them well.

i fully agree...doing this kind of thing to an animal that's only purpose is to live and procreate is nothing short of horrific,i wont even declaw or defang a cat...but i'm no fan of keeping venomous snakes as pets....proper controlled educator's is one thing...but barbarism is a completely different thing.

That's what I consider to be one of the truly unique strengths of this site. Unlike other sites, thread drift is not discouraged condemned, criticised or punished here, as it makes for an interesting, diverse, entertaining, rich, "twists and turns" style of rolling conversation.....just like a bunch of mates at the pub or modelling event, (after all, when was the last time you saw a bunch of like-minded blokes get together and then restrict their conversation to just one topic only???). All power to Troy for opening this thread cause it has now gone on for many pages and covered a range of interesting and diverse discussion points. As long as I own and run this site, thread drift will be considered a good, engaging, vibrant, positive and constructive thing.
