1/72 British Antactic Survey DHC-2 Beaver

Time for the next Falklands build. This is the Hobbycraft 1/72 DHC-2 Beaver done as VP-FAJ from the British Antarctic Survey. It is (2nd from top) the first build from this sheet. I have all the kits for this sheet.

It's a fairly basic kit detail wise with the fuselage halves moulded in clear so no separate windows. This meant I had to mask the windows from theinside before painting the interior. I used my new punch set for knocking out little circles of Tamiya tape for the corners of the windows then filled in the rest with said tape. I painted inside Gunze308 cos light grey seems to be the colour of choice looking at some pics.

As I said the detail is lacking a bit. The cockpit is sparse to say the least so a bit of detail painting on the IP and some wineb bottle foil seatbelts and the pit is as done as it's gonna get.

I managed to get the fuselage together with no dramas. The fit isn't too bad but it'll need a bit of self induced filler and sanding.

I'd like to have it ready for priming by COB Friday but I've got my little man tomorrow so maybe Monday. See how I go. If I get this finished I might even start the F.I.G.A.S. Iroquois from this sheet. I really need to start my 1/32 A-4 aggressor as well :)

Nice work sprucing the interior up Paul, will you add any more down the back? There seems to be a lot of space back there.

I wonder how it stacks up against the Airfix kit?

I thought about coiling some "rope" etc in the back AFTER I'd closed up the fuselage dammit

All I can say is very cool!!!!, (I was actually going to say "nice beaver" :D .... oldie but a goody).
Love this Falklands theme of yours Paul. As mentioned previously, I have a couple of Falklands projects I would like to do at some stage. The latest type to have taken my eye where this theme is concerned is the Argentinian Navy HS-125. She was a good-looking little jet and she apparently served in the vital role of navigation "path finder" for the tactical aircraft flying long range missions from the mainland.

I managed to get the wings, horizontal stabs and undercarriage on today. Note to self:- don't stick the wing struts to the fuselage before putting the undercarriage on     The struts go through holes in the undercarriage fairings so it was lucky I realised this before the glue had totally dried    Anyway this is where it's up to all ready for primer Monday :)

And this is the Beaver compared to the 1/32 Scooter aggressor I started today :o

Looks good Paul, that A-4 is so big compared to the Beaver.

With the clear fuselage you have just painted the interior so far, right?

Ta mate. Yeah just painted the interior grey so far. If the weather is good this weekend it might get a coat of primer :)

With the weather over the weekend being crap I only got to prime this jigger today. Now you lot. I don't wanna hear and "pink beaver" jokes got it? After reading Capt Eric's A-4 build with him using Tamiya pink primer under the slats before painting them red I'd thought I'd give it a crack. I might have to get another tin considering after the Beaver, there's another 6 red Falklands planes to build. A few things to fix up then I can paint it red. Anyways this is where it's up to at the moment :)
