A most unusual 727

Postby tor lives » Sat Aug 06, 2016 5:57 pm

This has gotta to be one of the most unusual and secretive 727s getting around

Sure would make for a very interesting model.

Is that the one that masquerades as an F-15, called Voodoo one or something similar
Dragon did an F-15, so modded up it would need 6 AMRAAM's, 10 Aim 7 Sparrows, and 20 Aim 9 Sidewinders plus a whole lot of extra internal fuel could patrol the South China Sea for a day

It is an F-15 nose.
See below extract from Airliners.net
Actually, what you see on the front of this 727 is the nose section of a retired USAF F-15. This section was carefully removed from an F-15 in the desert and then attached to the nose section of that 727-223. Originally, that portion of the F-15 housed the radar system, so it is a perfect place to test new radar systems. Of course, Raytheon (Hughes) has been in that business forever, so this having this testbed allows them to do complete evaluations of new systems in the air, while a whole crew of engineers ride along.
Over the years many other companies have used testbeds similar to this one, as you can see in the preceeding posts.
I am one of those Avgeeks that do not consider this attachment to be odd. I consider it to be cool.....
Cheers
