What would you do? A test of modelling integrity

Postby F-27pax » Wed Aug 03, 2016 11:09 pm

So, after several weeks of procrastinating about what to do with the wings on my Boeing 707-138s - there's nothing wrong with a good procrastination - I finally worked up the enthusiasm to start masking. Then, I noticed this horrible blunder on my part, having to do with the engine pylons

Here is the real thing

And here is my model

So, what would you do if you were in my shoes?

A Pretend you didn't notice and continue on as though nothing was wrong
B Do whatever it takes to rectify the problem, no matter what the cost
C Throw the thing in the bin and never think about making a 707-138 model again
D Open another bottle of red.

I think I'll think about it for a while while I finish off the nice Lightning that's also on my table at the moment.

Thinking to your extensive project, I wouldn't be happy looking in my hangar and seeing some nice built 707s, 720s and a "shortened" 720.
(it's so funny how Boeing managed the pylons, with those humps, sometimes empty, sometimes with the T.C. inside)
I'd take care of those pylons and do something that resembles the original.
Actually I'm doing the same in 1/72nd scale, deeply modifying the KC-135 engines.
Don't give up, and why not, open another red anyway.

I'd fix it as my modelling OCD wouldn't ever be happy. As I don't drink wine I'd crack a cider and get stuck into it mate but that's just me :) :) :) :)

Plenty of Red and then make up a new TC hood from card and transplant.

I vote "B".
To that end, is replacing the #1 and #4 with TC-equipped engine pylons from another kit a possibility???

I can't see the issue.

I'd probably be a "B", because I am flawed that way. If you had a "E" that comprised filling the model full of crackers (yes, not quite a legal option these days) and blowing it to pieces, that could be a fun option too. :D

Whilst a pain in the backside, can you scratch build some "add-ons" to the front bit of the pylon - you only have to make two of them? I reckon you could come up with something that could look pretty close to what's required. It won't be perfect, but would at least show the pylon running the full length along the top of the engine. Are there no AM engine/pylon sets you could use?

Or perhaps do as Wally suggests and drink more red wine!

Photos of more Lightnings please!

Good luck!
