A Gathering of Merths

Postby VH-WAL » Mon Aug 01, 2016 5:24 am

You may remember Inspector Clouseau's (Pink Panther) classic mispronunciation of "Moths". When I was at Jandakot Tower we used to love giving the instruction "Follow the Tiger Merth downwind" Anyhoos this year is the 85th anniversary of the Tiger Merth. To celebrate the occasion "A Gathering of Moths" was held at Old Warden, home of the Shuttleworth Collection, I popped down to have a gander..

Curious, I did some research..
There hasn't been a G-ADAM since 1934, only one machine ( I hesitate to use the word aircraft) was ever entitled to having the rego painted on it... wait for it...

A Pitcairn PA-19 Autogiro, one of only 4 ever built! At least VH-WAL, a clapped out Navajo, was a real aeroplane!

Some shots from my other camera (I use my EOS5D with my big lens for most of my airshow photography, but I use my smaller, lighter but still quite capable camera when I need a lower range of zoom and can't be assed to change the lens on the big one.)

So many lovely subjects, so little modelling time. Love those DH-60s in particular.
