Airfix 1/48 "Meatbox" F.8

On the way back seeing a client yesterday, a diverted into the city for some "plastic retail therapy". Visited my fav model shop Hearns and had a pleasant chat to that modelling "Groovy Guru" Daryl. I had planned to just by some paint and other odds and sods but saw that Airfix F.8 and just had to have it! There are plenty of reviews out there on-line, so I won't bother other than to say this is a must buy if any of you are into British fighters, military jets or just want to build a fantastic model! I've no idea what the fit is like yet, but the kit itself looks bloody amazing! Even the tyres are deformed - so no need to buy AM or shave the bottoms off. You get both types of engine inlets (large and small diameters), you get both types of canopy - fully blown and the half blown versions. On first inspection, very little needs to be added to the kit - maybe only a nicer AM bang seat - not sure yet. There apparently is a "Aussie" version coming out with three sets of markings. I couldn't wait, so will purchase AM decals for a 77 Sqn bird. Of course there are fully detailed engines to be displayed in the model or on a engine stand - brilliant! Even the gun covers are suitably warped from heat and being removed often - awesome! This kit has broken new ground on what quality we can expect in the future.

Here's a great review of the kit. The instructions are amazing as a example.

Here are the canopies.

So, if any of you lot have a vaguest interest in early jet fighters, then I highly recommend this kit. It's a double thumbs up from me!

Have the kit and it is great. Now all Airfix need to do is upscale their Tiger Moth to 1/48 and they will blow the market open with that elusive aircraft that just about every country in the world used/uses. The response to my email detailing this was received warmly by the Airfix administration.
