As many on here will know i am a huge air racing fan(real stuff not the redbull thing ) and on the way to reno last year the super modified P51 "Precious metal" had a a fuel fire and was heavily damaged.....many of us fans (and even the owner pilot) thought that her racing days were done.
well the other day the team announced that a rebuild is now going to happen ..the announcement is below.

Dear Precious Metal fans,
After many months of exploring possibilities and evaluating the salvage of Precious Metal, we have decided to retain what’s left of the aircraft and begin the rebuild process!
We have settled with the insurance company. As always, US Specialty Insurance Company and our sponsor Ladd Gardner Aviation Insurance Agency, have both been great to work with, and they have been very fair in their evaluation. We highly recommend you utilize their services when you shop for aircraft insurance of any kind.
We’ve received multiple estimates of the rebuild and have numerous opportunities as to which way to go with the project. Initially, we’ll start the disassembly in house as we have yet to decide where to send the pieces and parts for overhaul. The damage is extensive and even though everything can be rebuilt, we may need to acquire another airframe to expedite the rebuild process. We don’t have the complete budget for the project, but we can start and see where it takes us. Every journey starts with the first step and that first step is to commit to making the airplane fly again, which we have now done. Things will fall in to place as we make progress and updates will be plentiful.
Thanks for your continued support,
Thom Richard
WELL BRING IT ON I SAY
