Heller B707 WIP

Postby VH-WAL » Fri Mar 25, 2016 1:23 pm

Thanks to Graeme H a few weeks ago I got a slightly basket case partially built Heller 707 which I started on pretty much straight away and worked on for a couple of weeks before I went off on an impromptu camping / road trip for a break with the missus, (then spent a week cleaning up the work bench to a point where I could actually think about modelling again!) I started work on this again a few days ago. I did the decal design work and test fitted using paper cut outs previously but because I need to mask of the aircraft grey portion of the rear fuselage I had to check the decal against the model and use it as the masking medium so I printed them out on decal paper for the first test fit. I hate this, it is so tedious trying to get the windows /doors/ escape hatches correctly spaced.. they have to be part of the cheat line because that is the only way I can get the white bits to be white. I had a problem with a black background coming up behind some of the smaller titles and the "Bird" but I have fixed that.

Love it Wal !!!
The big, ol, beautiful 707 looked great in this scheme. I remember seeing these come into to the old Brisbane Eagle Farm Airport when I was a kid. They also operated a Boeing 720 for a while.

Hiya RAy, yeah this one too will be on a stand, the balsa work in the wing centre section incorporates a stand mounting structure as well as a former which ensures the wing attaches to the fuselage in the correct position (it aligns the bottom of the wing with the fuselage bottom nicely) and maximising cement (epoxy glue area). The fuselage bottom at the wing join area has sprue spreaders glued in to minimise the gap at the wing join which was absolutely horrendous before this tweak.
The stands are made from off cut foam.

cheers
wal... ps havent forgotten about P-3 decals will get them done soon

G'day Wal,
Just noticed that the model still has it's lower ventral fin. Ya might have to give that the arse mate. The Air Niugini birds were 707-338s (ex QF), and they did not have this feature.

Speaking of custom decals.....I have just bought a 1:72 Embraer Brasilia and I was wondering if I could get a set of those Network Aviation beauties you produced, as we had previously discussed?? :D
