No self discipline

Postby tor lives » Sat Feb 27, 2016 2:10 pm

As I have absolutely NO self discipline, I couldn't help myself and have just bought these to add to the stash.

This one will be in a hybrid colour scheme of Hazelton Airlines/Qantas Cargo.

Two of these :? . One will be in Qantas Group (Eastern) colours, while the other will be in Australian Airlines colours.

This one will be in the Impulse "blue cockatoo" scheme. In fact I am having the custom decals for this prepared as we speak.

I hope the Eastern one is not going to be in the short lived POS scheme.
http://www.aussieairliners.org/jetstrea ... vhtqm.html

where on the merger some dropkick at QF thought all small aircraft crashed everyday, and didn't want the full corporate scheme showing on crashed aircraft so they came up with the gold stripe and red just appearing on the tail (true story).
Fortunately someone, probably James Strong vetoed it within about 6 months, one Twin Otter was painted up as well (VH-TGG), don't know of much else.
I repainted ARAQ's display model Twin Otter, so have a copy of the painting instructions for the Twin Otter, not that I would ever do that scheme.

Does the J31 kit have the 4 bladed props?
and when I get around to scanning them I have a good set of photos of -TQL in Australian scheme

I worked on an Eastern Jetstream in TMW before it went somewhere. I was concentrating on getting my Dash licence so wasn't that interested in the Jetstream. Nice haul mate. So I bet you've exceeded your pre stash sale number of models yeah. I guess I'll be buying a Jetstream off you in a few years. You can keep the stinking Beechcraft though

G'day Graeme,
Yeah....immediately post merger with the Australian Airlines Group (TN), Qantas directed that all regional types be painted in what was to become known as the "milk bottle" scheme. The directive required that the regional types be identifiable as Qantas Group, but not carry the iconic "flying kangaroo", (in fact a similar thing occurred with Qantas Freight over a decade later). All regional types initially carried this scheme including the BAe-146, Dash 8, Twin Otter, Cessna 404, Shorts 360, and J31. The scheme did not last very long because it was ultimately felt that it had a isolating and divisive effect on the Qantas Group instead of bringing it together as a single entity. There was also apparently an adverse customer back lash. It was actually John Borgetti who convinced the senior Qantas management of the day the benefits of singular branding, (not surprisingly he has done the same thing at Virgin).
Here are what some of the regional types looked like in the "milk bottle" scheme:

My Qantas Group (Eastern) J31 will be carrying the full Qantas colours as did the Cessna 404 I built a couple of years ago, (although I do intend on building a Twin Otter in the "milk bottle" scheme so that at least it is represented in my Qantas collection) .
Not sure of the J31 blade arrangement in the Amodel kit, I will let you know when I get it.
For what it is worth.....now that I have two Amodel J31s, I now have two surplus Airfix 1:72 Jetstreams avaialble if anyone is interested.

Picked up the Beech 1900C and a J32 (same plastic as the J31) the other day, very nice kits.

I don't recall the milk bottle scheme. Always wanted to do a QL BAe 146. Have the kits but not sure about decals.... one day.

Agree. Nice but let down by the props in my opinion.

What's this - non-1/32 purchases!!! Ray, we've been over this again and again - 1/32 is "Man Scale"! This is going to require a lot more "therapy" and must be seen as a backward step in your modelling development! :D

Joking of course for those who have not seen the epic "Mutually Assured Destruction 1/32 buy-a-thon" that Ray and I have been locked in battle over the last few years, with major impact on our respective bank accounts! Good luck with these Amodel kits mate. I've mostly built one Amodel kit, a 1/48 Yak-52 which was pretty bad. What are their airliner kits like? Still, you airliner modellers are very used to non-shake n bake kits from what I've seen here. Many appear to offer significant construction challenges.

Cheers
