Hey RB Paul

Conceded regarding your argument regarding the "GT" class. GT does of course encompass quite a range of vehicles designed for long distance high speed cruising/touring. Still, to me there is nothing like the sound of a well tuning and tweaked normally aspirated V-8. Whilst I do not like Merc's at all, their 6.3 lt engine is incredible I think. I won't ever buy a Merc cause they just look too much like taxis, but credit where credit is due for the excellent engineering.

This video should now crush your argument and rule in favour that V-8's are truly the best sounding car engines. To me 4's & 6's are too "twangy/tiney" in sound. The 12's kind of too smooth. V-8's roar like a seriously pissed off tiger! it's a sound that goes right through you. If I could have anything to drive around in on a day to day basis, it would be a Aston Martin Vantage.

Now I know you're definitely on f&^king drugs mate if you think those Euro trash shitboxes sound any good. All I saw was basically a bunch of Honda wannabes and lawnmowers. Drive any of those and something with a "truck" motor in it and see which one pulls more looks. Unless of course you're at a Dad's Army reunion car show, it'll be the V8 every time. That's also due to the fact that those italian snotboxes would've broken down or run out of oil before they got out the bloody driveway. Hmmm comparing a modern car to a '64 Mustang???? I love comparing apples and oranges but you gotta be joking me right. One of the fastest motorsports in the world, Top Fuel uses ................... oh that's right a truck motor. Hmmmmm not a shitbox 4cyl anywhere to be seen. As for this little 1L shitbox fitting in nicely with the MX5, no f&*ks given as I won't be getting a pissy MX5 anytime soon either     Oh and just a little fact about old (comparing similar years..... see what I did there :P ) eurotrash being sooooooo fast, if an LJ XU-1 was tuned properly, it'd pull 100mph in 3rd with 1, yes 1 more gear to go. And that was a factory road car. I know this because a mate of mine had 1 and he showed me 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) As for the crapi sounding better, you crack me up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJLXTFiDHO0 I'll stick to my truck motor thanks 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

One of my ol' bosses years ago used to race Triumph TR-4's.5's and knew Jim Richards. Well, Jim gave him a go of his personal XYGT Phase III one time. He was able to do 80 MPH in first gear, going sideways a lot of the way! Of course Jim would no doubt have had his Phase III race tuned. It's a pretty impressive story and I don't believe my ex-boss had any reason or need to make it up. Hard doing this in a turbo'd 1.0 litre - OUCH! :D

oh reall 100 mph it third in a tuned XU1......only one gear to go....the little blue "shitbox" as you called it...in tuned form(pulling to 8 grand"..would do 110 mph in third...........and had 2 GEARS to go..........in my club racing days she was never beaten by an XU1 at winton..and at the island was only a second or so slower than the best engineered street torana i ever saw...SLR8000!!!!...awesome in a straight line..but had to brake so hard to get around the twisty bits    i dint have to brake so hard and could flow the car very nicely thanks............. :o   8-) ...oh and if you want looks try driving a Ferrari...this was never about pulling looks,it about you dont need a v8 to go fast(and that daytona sounds better then ANY v8)......i have many car mates most love V8's BUT they can also like other stuff as well(Paul you did once say you were a datto man)...one has owned sub 10second 1/4 mile blown VY 6 litre commodore, and is now building a 350 chev powered rod...but he also had a BFxr6.......tuned it got deep into the 9's...just the car around the motor was a shitbox...it just shits me when people think if it doesn't have a V8 then it's crap.

and the BEST sounding car in V8 super car's is the VOLVO...

oh and i like a note not F#%*ING noise.......why i cant stand harley's and love ducati's

oh as for the drag thing......back in the 90's when F1 was run in Adelaide they took one of the brabham bmw turbo F1 cars to Adelaide dragway and ran it against a top fueler.....back then 6's were the fastest in the world...the F1 car with the boost turned up ran about 1/2 a second slower(this is a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder...about 1500 hp on qualifying boost) the rail was around 3000 or so hp...the rail had the bottom end rebuilt after 2 runs....the F1 car went back to the grandprix circuit did 3 days of qualifying and a 2 hour race...........

WOW! That BVM does sound INSANE! Sounds like 2 x V-8's in Dolby 5.1 surround sound with the amp on 11!

OK - I'm sure you know about this one - Jay Leno's "UP YOURS!" to Bentley - his custom built Toronado pumping out over 1000HP - ah, the things money can buy huh!

Could Jay's Toronado be the ultimate GT?

Far from it Ray........as i said there are many ways of looking at cars......not just one(even you said earlier you like a big V12)....then listen to the tiny V16 I linked earier.

you know holden did make a fine GT......the HG 350 gts....seing as it no longer had to be a race car(replaced by the mighty XU1 torana)... they softened the suspension and gave it taller diff ratio, it was a better cross country cruiser than the GTHO could ever be.......the later commodore based monaro was alos a grat long distance cruiser.
