GM Opel "GT" 1.0 litre sports car

Postby Adam the Akrodude » Mon Feb 08, 2016 9:10 am

Pretty looking concept car, but 1.0 litre 3-cyl "GT" pumping out a whopping 107kW? YGBSM! Good one GM - yawn! This is not what GT is all about GM.

actually Adam...you'd be wrong...the opel GT was in a former life a mini corvette of the late 60's early 70's and much loved in europe(you know the home of the TRUE gt cars 8-)

107 KW is 144 hp in the old scale.....more than a base model 64 mustang    .....not bad from a 1 litre engine

Paul, it's a lovely little car, but hardly something to get excited about performance wise - YAWN!

Seriously 1.0 litre - why bother. May as well be 0 litre and wack in a electric motor. At least then you get 100% torque instantly.

Who in their right mind would want a "base model" Mustang anyway? Even now, only 20% of Mustang buyers here are opting for the 4-cyl version and this begs the question - why? Mustang and V-8 goes hand in hand.

performance wise it fits in very nicely as a competitor for the Mazda MX5........GT cars are not always muscle cars....my old 1971 GTV alfa would scare the crap out of most muscle car of the era..even stock it would cruise happily @110 MPH all day long and top out at around 130MPH on 145 BHP...and as for handling not much of that era got close...front and rear coil springs...large 4 wheel disc's were only thing muscle cars could dream of in 1971(gtho's had pretty ordinary front disc's and drums on the back.....and cart axle springs
Image

but she didnt stay stock......closer to 200BHP...koni shocks all round(would lap winton in 1minute 15 seconds) and high 13's for a quarter mile.......and saw 135MPH on the doncaster freeway(damn i miss this pocket rocket :( )

..........oh that 135 MPH was scaring the shit out of a 455 firebird.....she sounded AWESOME at that speed,,,and he backed off first 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) ......oh and the firebird still sounded like a slow revving truck motor...i keep telling you...there are MUCH better sounds out there

oh really.....why would i want to drive a lazy slow revving truck motor, when pound for pound cc for cc a stock 2 liter GTV (all alloy motor) with twin weber's from the factory out performs just about all stock V8's from the period.........twin weber induction roar is heard to beat...btw......muscle cars are NOT gt car...muscle cars are about traffic light drags.....GT's are about high speed touring....Europe has the yanks well and truly out classed there......not many muscle cars will cruise the autobahn's at 200kph +...and get around corners

not an alfa........but even faster
