1/48 RAF F-86 Sabre

A place for our military aviation modellers to show their stuff. It may not be civil but it still has a home here

I could not survive in my man cave/office without my little portable a/c. It takes about 6-7 degrees off the outside temp, so makes my little space habitable - up to the mid-30's. After that, I have to beat a hasty retreat inside.

I haven't been out there for 3 days so far. I love the heat but fumes + heat + small room doesn't equal a very pleasant experience :(

After finding out last night my Dad ids coming down this Monday for a week I thought I'd better get cracking on this. It's been ready for decals for about 2 months so I spent until 12:30am this morning smashing the decals on. The decals are from Eagle Strike and all I can say is WOOOOOW. They are brilliant. 10 secs after hitting the water they came off the backing paper and went down beautifully without a hint of silvering. Some of the stencils are grouped together as one decal which made me a little nervous but as I said, no silvering at all. I usually apply One Go as my setting solution and for the most part this work. The decals for the little radar on the nose required some Mr Mark Softer to get them around the compound curves. Unfortunately the sharks mouth would've benefttied from this as well as there are a few wrinkles under the One Go. It'll have to do as I don't have time to fix it. I'm pretty happy though with it so far. Later on tonight I'll hit it with flat coat. After that it's remove the canopy masking, paint the nav lights and stick the drop tanks on. Then add it to a base and it'll be done. Onto the pics :)

Quick update. Got this thing flat coated tonight and I'm reasonably happy with it. Drop tanks will be fitted tomorrow some time then tomorrow night I'll paint the nav lights, pitot tube and remove the canopy masking. It'll be donew for when Dad gets here Monday. I've decided not to rush the base. I'll take my time and get it sorted properly then post it up to Dad. Anyways just 1 pic tonight :)

Nice work there Paul. Always great to see a model "in-flight".

Cheers

Very nice Paul, your Dad will love that.
Always thought that the Sabre looked just right.
Cheers
Wayne

PS. How did you go getting a base?
I meant to tell you that a lot of trophy shops have discarded base bins you can always raid.
