Sad news today of the loss of life of at least one Russian aviator possibly two, shot down in a Su-24 by a Turkish F-16 - big o'pps there! It appears that that a Russian helicopter was also blown up by Syrian rebels using a TOW during the Russian aircrew rescue attempt. This is where it's getting very "murky" and I'm wondering if I should start digging that bunker out the back as my "man cave" is not thermonuclear proof! Someone has to protect these rare 1/32 kits for future generations!

Here is a link to some footage of the Russkies apparently hammering ISIS fuel storage and production facilities. Now, this does beg the question why these targets were not hit before? Lack of intel as to who in fact controlled these facilities or some other reason?

Keep your heads down folks, this could get worse! Turkey as asked to convene a emergency meeting of NATO. Putin is obviously pretty pissed right now! He obviously knows that any attack on Turkey is a attack on NATO. Hmmm!

So the Russian President is "angry" about the loss of his SU-24....... but hang on, isn't this the same guy who supplied sophisticated surface-to-air missile systems to his rock-ape mates in the Ukraine, who then used them to shoot down an unarmed, civilian Boeing 777 killing 100s of innocent civilians . Ain't karma a bitch Mr President !!!!

Too right Ray! Russia it appears will be moving SAM's into Syria now - this is sure getting complex!

Read that the Russian Suk Nav was rescued and he advised of zero warning prior to being shot down - guessing a ground controlled intercept with F-16 firing a Sidewinder. I would now expect that Su-24's will be escorted by Su-30's. One now wonders what all this means for RAAF op's in northern Syria?

Once again......what the hell is Russia bitching about????. How many warnings did they give the Korean Air lines 747 before they blew it out of the territorial skies???. Wake up to yourselves Russia, you hardly have the moral high ground when it comes to shooting down aircraft, (especially civilian airliners ). Yeah......I REALLY fell sorry for you.

I'm more referring to the pretty vulnerable nature of the older Su-24. I should have said zero warning of the inbound AIM-9. Putin could very well be baiting the West and this works in his favour to expand Russia's presence in Syria. The Rooskies ain't letting go of Syria any time soon as it hosts their Med naval port at Tartus - plus all that oil & gas in this region to be fought over and controlled!
