Very nice progress on a very cool subject Lee!!!. We love our airliners here at A/CAM, (which is why I set up the site).
Also, on behalf of all A/CAMers, welcome to our little site, we are very pleased to have you here. We are a bunch of like-minded blokes who enjoy our models and love our aeroplanes. We don't take ourselves to seriously here, (after all, at the end of the day, we are talking toy aeroplanes :D ), and we all enjoy a bit of banter and a good laugh. We are lucky in that we don't seem to have the argy-bargy that can sometimes be experienced on other model sites. Once again, welcome Lee, and we hope you enjoy your A/CAM experience.

PS: A/CAM puts on a club display at Model Expo in June every year, here in Melbourne. Next year's display theme happens to be Ansett.....so it would be great to see your DC-9 there :D

Thanks mate i'm more than happy to be part of A/CAM it's an excellent site you have created just what us civy modellers need.
I really started to love airliners back in 1992 when as a 12 yr old i used to beg for a day off school so i could go to work with old dad (he was a cleaner at Adelaide airport YPAD) midnight to 8am i got to see some amazing stuff in the hangar where the big jets used to have maintenance in the dead of night then the last job on dad's routine was cleaning the control tower they used to let me watch the controllers in action during the early morning rush and some mornings if i was lucky one of the blokes would take me down stairs and walk across the grass to the side of the taxiway where 727s ect would taxi so close to where we would stand the wingtip used to go directly over my head i still remember the piercing sound and smell of the JT8D's.

Yes i will sure try to get over to Melbourne in June for the expo as i will have the authentic airliners 1/144 Ansett 727 kit built by then as well.

G'day Lee, welcome. A DC-9 is a good start. I have a few of these kits stored up for a happy day when I can find the time to put them together.

By the way, I enjoyed your memories of 727s at Adelaide Airport. One of my happiest 727 memories is there, on a flight from Sydney to Perth we landed there to top of before heading over to the west. So there we are as far back on the runway as you could go without getting bogged with the pilot sitting hard on the brakes and the whole aeroplane shaking with the power of the engines going flat out. I had the biggest smile on my face but there were a lot of white knuckles among the other pax. Then one of the engines unstarted with a mighty bang and screams from many pax, and we had to go back to the end of the runway to have another go. As much fun as you can have sitting down - well, almost.

Thanks mate funny you should say that my first and only time i experienced a RTO was on a 727 in Adelaide it was actually a joy flight ( Mystery flights i think they were called )
The fly DC 9 is coming together really well its a nice kit a must have for us airliner nuts as most of us seem to have these kits.

Cheers Lee.

Hi all hope you are all well the build slowed down a little while i was waiting for the authentic airliners 727 to arrive so i could use the JT8 intakes (The 727 200 kit has the hush kit and standard engines)
I added some strips of styrene around the inside of the fuselage to help keep things nice and aligned and stop any seams that may try to appear after handling ect ( Dont ask how i know this :x )

As you can see the intakes are a lot more accurate and i also added 2mm to the engine pylons to move the engines away from the fuselage and i also reshaped the air con intake on the horizontal stab using epoxy putty

So after adding the wings / wheels and the various antennae she's taking shape now quickly i have just to add a few more small details and she's ready for primer and her Ansett livery.

Cheers & ill be back soon with more

Looks great Lee. Awesome work so far. I like how you spaced the engines away from the fuse. Something I must try to remember when I eventually do mine :)

Just a few more pics after adding the gear doors and i also added the rain gutter above the main door with stretched sprue and the tail skid made from a thin piece of styrene then a few coats of Tamiya liquid surface primer thinned with Mr color leveling thinner airbrushed on to cover it all up :)

So now i will let the primer harden up for the day and then start painting.

Cheers
