That's the thing....they probably won't! Especially when there's a Toyworld on the same level selling a lot of the same kits for less....if only they could get some bigger Airfix kits in.
Pretending to do it TAC style with the big boys since 1987

First of all - outstanding work - as usual!

Is this the Airfix kit? If so, how do you find the panel lines - are they pretty deep/big? I'm considering to half fill them in on the Airfix kit - not sure.

Cheers

Adam

Hi Adam, late reply I have been preoccupied last few days,
No that Dak was an Italeri / second oldest Airfix / Revell one (Airfix had 3 DC-3s..1 an original old mould, 2 the shared Revell / Italeri one and then their latest new tool of which I have 3 though 2 are still in the UK residence. The other DC-3 kit is the ESCI one which apparently Italeri occasionally repops as another Mark of Dak.
All except the original bad, lots in other ways, Airfix offering have horrible out of character engraved panel lines.
The Esci looked better than the Italeri/Revell/Airfix2, the engines looked much more representative but it had an absolutely horrible tailwheel.
I dont know how good the Airfix 3 is, but I have looked at the sprues and was disappointed with the engraved panel lines. I have seen some builds of this model where the builders have accentuated the panel lines with shading / wash fill, to my eyes they look absolutely crap and un DC-3 like but hey thats the way the like to do it good on 'em.
Me , I'd fill the bastards completely, very tedious and time consuming work

Hi Wally

I've ordered the Airfix Dak and will have a crack at mostly filling in those outrageous panel lines. My "flawed" character in regard to the modelling projects I decide to work on, seems to push me towards models that require a ridiculous amount of effort to get right! WTF is wrong with me? I've also started a Roden T-28D Trojan with trench like panel lines which I also plan to fill in. I've seen a few here have started using a water based "bog" I will also try for panel line filling - Damo, what's the name of that white stuff you've been using on your 172's?

Been thinking that I may run a blade on the underside/rear of these panel lines to replicated the overlapping nature of the panels on the Dak - just on the fuselage. More research will be needed before I do this though.
