1/72 Ansett Dak decals

Postby Adam the Akrodude » Wed Nov 18, 2015 11:56 am

You bloody airliner builders have started to have an "effect" on me. Seriously giving thought to building a 1/72 Dak - hopefully in Ansett colours, but failing that could be in QANTAS or TAA colours as I can get both those sets of decals via Hannants.

Any clues as to where I could score a set of 1/72 Ansett Dak decals? Red Roo used to do them, but no longer.

I'm also looking at the newish 1/72 Airfix C-47 kit. Anyone bought this yet and can provide comments about it? My only concern is the panel lines look pretty heavy for 1/72.

Cheers

Hawkeye have just released this one too...

You can do 2 aircraft with this sheet - one early variation (or the preserved example at Longreach Museum) and one later variation. Designed by yours truly! :D

You'd think you'd want the retro decals out ASAP to take advantage of the market.

This one has particular appeal. I have not yet seen an aeroplane-type that does not take well to this TN scheme....it's just a beautiful colour scheme, and looks as fresh and modern today as the day it was rolled out.

I really like those QANTAS Heritage Series markings - and the fact that the Dak will be largely NMF! I'll try to get these decals. Does not look good trying to get Ansett decals and I would like to make a Ansett bird as ol' Reg was a benefactor to my old school (donated the school bus, plus other contributions). I remember him driving up on the weekend in his big Cadi to watch the school footy - more often after he got the "boot" from his beloved company. So, failing getting Ansett decals, it looks like my Dak to be will be a QANTAS bird. I'm going to give that Airfix kit a whirl and will do a build revue when I start sometime in 2016 possibly. Just placed a order with Hannants for my Airfix Dak plus a bunch of bling! I'm actually looking forward to this as I've never build a airliner/cargo hauler before. I will attempt to use that "Rub n Buff" type wax as well. AK plus a bunch of other paint and art suppliers produce this stuff and for smaller scales, it looks very interesting. I like the idea of being able to rub & buff the finish as some areas can be shown tarnished and others more polished. Got to work out now where in the build schedule my Dak is to go.

I'd like to do an Ansett DC-5 in these colours

Also remember the Ansett ones had Wright R-1820s (shorter cowls) instead of the P&W R-1830s (longer cowls) :)
