Very pleased to hear that you enjoyed it as well as your girls !

The museum is trying hard to get everybody interested, young ones and older ones. Two weeks ago, they had the open cockpit day and boy that was a success, plenty of families turning up and kids having a good time, as good as their parents, or at least their dad !

It was a nice event and the Sunday morning with the 400+ Ford Mustangs around was just massive...

There was some breakage, and the pitot tube of my 1/72 Pantera obviously was too tempting for somebody, but no big deal, easily fixed. In June, at Model Expo, it was my 1/72 Mirage IIIDS which got the pitot tube broken.
As you said, kids are curious, can't blame them, it's part of life ! but sure parents could also be a bit more careful sometimes. Big subject..

My kids are saturated with my aviation related stuff at home, so I need to be careful not to ram it down their poor little throat too much. Being hangar brats in the past has been enough for them! So, after some moaning and groaning at home prior to leaving for Moorabbin on Sunday, it was great to seeing them have fun and enjoy themselves in the museum. I got to chat to a nice ol' chap who had once served in 77 Sqn in Korea with a mate of mines father. This guy later owned a C150 "Aerobat" years ago and I learnt to fly aerobatics in a C152 Aerobat, so we traded "there we were" flying stories. He has plenty of stories about Moorabbin in the past and has threatened to write a book called "Peyton Field" in reference to all the dramas and goings on amongst the community at the airfield over the years! I do enjoy having a chat with these ol' guys who often volunteer at these museums as they often have great stories to tell.

Yes, model breakages at shows - it's always going to happen. I think some big signs saying "DO NOT TOUCH MODELS" will help, plus a few watchful eyes guarding the display tables will minimise damage.

I think the "1 for 1" rule should apply at all model shows......ie: one broken finger for one broken model. You only need one or two broken little, mischievous, fingers before the message is heard loud and clear

Ow, your tough! Maybe breaking several state and federal laws doing this! I'd make parents responsible - you break a model, you pay! Might be hard to enforce, but tell the parents "that's $200 worth of damage - fork up!", will at the very least get them out of the venue quick smart! Follow the parents out to the car park and kick a panel of their car in - that will learn 'em! The issue is parents being crap parents and not taking responsibility for keeping their kids in line. Model event organisers must put in place some basic measures to advise the public not to touch models as well - how are kids to know otherwise?

How hard is this? It's of course not 100% foolproof, as there will always be the occasional breakage - that's the risk we take.

The finger wouldn't be the only thing broken should someone even attempt to do that to my little man. I'd be tippin a body bag would be needed with a mop and bucket for the clean up. Just sayin

Tell me about it - after several visits rushing kids to Cabrini Emergency over the years with such ailments as:
- broken collarbone (eldest rolled off bed when she was 2)
- split chin to the bone (eldest girl did a one-point landing with her chin onto another kids head at a swimming lesson)
- broken arm (eldest once again came off one of those rotten Razor scooters and did a one-point landing with her right arm. I watching it rotate where it's not designed to rotate!)
- youngest had her fingernail ripped out and the nail bed torn when her sister slammed a door on said finger - I will NEVER forget the screams!

These memories I'll have all my life. Little kids generally don't have much of a clue - older kids should have though. It's like with vandalism, car theft, etc, etc with kids - make the parents responsible, that will change things. Bloody easy to make kids, a lot tougher bringing them properly to become responsible citizens.

I know of course you're not. Generally speaking, I just can't believe how crap so many parents have become. Some kids are left to do as they please - with pretty well zero guidance. I've the "teen" years ahead of me and to try to survive - that's my next big challenge for a few years! AAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! Thank goodness for my man-cave escape pod full of 1/32 kits to build!

Sorry I missed you, Adam! My Dornier was the victim of a breakage, but unfortunately, I was the perpetrator. D'oh! The open centre canopy section caught on something as I was lifting it out of the transport box, and that was the end of that. Still haven't repaired it. Despite that, it managed to score Best Enemy Aircraft, so I was pretty chuffed with that (even if the museum rep managed to pronounce my name wrong twice). The Texan also got a 3rd place. I forgot my references for both models, so the result may have been even better for me! Maybe next year...
